I fully expect that Dr. Strange's deal to give Thanos the stone in exchange for Tony's life will be shown to be a part of the one timeline where they end up succeeding. I also have a feeling Avengers 4 will bring back most of, if not all, the characters who died in Infinity War while killing of some of the remaining survivors - for real this time. (Tony Stark and Captain America are the most likely casualties - as both Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans's Marvel contracts are over after Avengers 4). “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

Just to review the original post, the first three films were big hits. Spider Man rejoined the Cinematic Universe and bumped Ragnarok to the fall and Black Panther to February where it set all kinds of records. Captain Marvel moved to 2019. Inhumans debuted on ABC where it crashed big time. Captain America: Civil War BV $1,153.3 Doctor Strange BV $677.7 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 BV $863.8 Spider-Man: Homecoming Sony $880.2 Thor: Ragnarok BV $854.0 Black Panther BV $1,346.5 Avengers: Infinity War BV $2,040.1 Ant-Man and the Wasp BV |

ams288 Member since: Apr 21, 2016 Threads: 29 Posts: 12517 | Captain Marvel started screening for film critics last night and the early word is (no surprise) quite positive. Can Marvel do any wrong?! But of course, the trolls are out again and already trying to tank the movie's user score on Rotten Tomatoes. Seems like they hate any movie that doesn't star a white man in the lead role (they also targeted Black Panther's user score on Rotten Tomatoes - that didn't quite work out for them, did it?). “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

But BP sucked, that's why. I made it 40 min in, felt like 2 hours. Horrible acting, ridiculous storyline. A bunch of advance green tinted Black people carrying spears, some of them with dinner plates in their earlobes or lower lips. Did I mention the acting was beyond atrocious? If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Last year Black Panther surprised the world because a new character produced a billion dollar movie. This year Captain Marvel is also a new character and the film is also becoming a billion dollar movie. Black Panther $700.1 domestic +$646.9 foreign (final revenue) Captain Marvel $353.8 domestic +$636.8 foreign (24 days) The foreign boxoffice is about the same, but domestically this one has earned roughly half as much. Why? |

It’s not a film that connects with the core Marvel Universe demographic, teen boys. The movie panders to tween aged girls with a retread of the “girl-power” storyline already done by “Wonder Woman”. Everyone of the male characters is over 50, so there’s no one for the straight ladies to swoon over, and the filmmakers deliberately avoided sexy costumes for the ladies, which is a deal breaker for repeat attendance by the teen boy core. One and done: Many in the audience were mainly there to see the bonus bits in the credits setting up the next Avengers release. Look for the next Avengers film to shatter opening week records, including fastest to $1B. But then, I expect business to fall off, unless a new hero can restart the franchise with the current crop of 8 - 12 year olds. |

That analysis makes sense, but I don't see why it doesn't apply equally to the foreign box office. I suppose both Black Panther and Captain Marvel had bigger overseas box office than the other non-Avengers movies in the last two years. Foreign Box Office $406.0 Ant-Man and the Wasp 2018 $546.0 Spider-Man: Homecoming 2017 $538.9 Thor: Ragnarok 2017 $473.9 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 2017

ams288 Member since: Apr 21, 2016 Threads: 29 Posts: 12517 | Avengers: Endgame is 3 hours 2 minutes long. The longest Marvel movie by about a half an hour. I'm sure it's going to be a box office smash, but that long runtime does mean less show times per day. Tickets still haven't gone on sale yet. The rumor is that tomorrow is the big day. I've been waiting to snatch my tickets to the first showing for weeks. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

ams288 Member since: Apr 21, 2016 Threads: 29 Posts: 12517 | Endgame tickets went on sale this morning at 8 am. I purchased 4 tickets for the first showing at about 8:02 and the theatre was already mostly sold out. And shortly after that all the various theater and ticketing websites crashed due to the high demand. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |
