Obviously Forbes cannot distinguish between an individual and a Group or a Team, but 9/50 of the top paid celebrities are women. Do you think you will live to see the day when it gets anywhere near 20/50?

I don't get Katy Perry. She is certainly talented, but not compared to many singers.

When women's sports take off. Or when men's sports tank.

Do the math.

a few years ago.

As always it depends. Singers are entering a new world with different revenue streams from decades past. You do not make money being a singer, you make it by making yourself a brand.

Expanding the list from top 50 to top 100. There are only 7 in the next 50 with 4 women as part of the 6 way tie for the bottom of the list. Presumably Oprah is no longer considered a celebrity by Forbes.

I don't believe the relationship between talent, celebrity, and income is that strong. There is a LOT of randomness in who becomes a celebrity. For any celebrity there is a combination of talent, work, and luck required to make it big. Look at Kim Kardashian at $52 million. The world is full of people that are harder working, more talented, and better looking. For every pop star there are thousands that are just as talented but didn't meet the right manager, didn't choose the right song, didn't play the right club when such and such famous person was there.

One Direction? Who is even going to remember them in 10 years.

Some of these celebrities are in areas more related to actual work. Look at someone like Gordon Ramsay. He worked his way up through the food industry for decades. Even then, his success still depended on getting a good review from the right person at the right time, meeting the right people, etc.

Who is highest rated that you have no idea who the person is?
For me its 27 Ed Sheeran. I know everybody above him. Who is Ed Sheeran, never heard of him.
Anybody here familiar with Ed Sheeran?

Sports and a boy band. Not surprising. Author, well, in my opinion, not that good so that does not surprise me either.
I know James Patterson because I read one of his books. Surprised he is on the list because he did not hook me with one book.
Generally If I read a good book, I read every book by the author, didn't happen with Patterson

They used to put famous authors on the TV show Castle. Here is James Patterson with Stephen Cannel guest starring:

JP is working on his 150th book with 23 of them featuring Alex Cross. His first book was published in 1976, and the first Alex Cross book published in 1993. You combine steady book sales with sales of scripts for movies, and you can get a pretty high income.

Real Madrid Club de Fútbol is the most valuable sports team in the world, worth $3.4 billion, and Cristiano Ronaldo is their superstar.
