I watched the entire video. The presenter makes a point to say that even if you are completely innocent, do not talk to the police. No good will come of it. He gives examples of why people should not talk to the police even if they are completely innocent. I'm convinced! I will never talk to the police.

I've seen it a couple of times. It just bothers me that people are concluding that they should not cooperate with police at all, whatsoever. What, 50% of crimes that get solved are due to information from the public? The police are often clueless; I don't know the figure but suspect it is higher.

Criminals often comit their crimes in their own neighborhoods because that is where they feel most safe. As police become viewed as an occupational army of microphone and dna-weilding intruders, there is a decline in the approachability of the average cop on the beat and information sources dry up. This makes the zone of criminal comfort greater, not less.

The recent headline making conviction of a Canadian Colonel on rape and murder charges started out with a member of the public approaching a cop with the famed "this is probably nothing but I saw...". The passerby who noted a strange car parked in a neighboring lot made the cops go back and extend their crime scene search beyond the original scene. They found tire tracks in the snow and ice and the hunt was on.

We do want the cops to make use of the latest forensic techniques, but most crimes are not solved by fingerprints, dna or anything fancy.

Texas recently refused to join the national sex offender registry becuase its an expensive resource-absorbing program based on historical convictions yet children who are actually at risk are usually at risk from parents, neighbors and friends, rather than felons already in the database. Tying up cops tracking down all the computerized convicts wastes time and manpower almost as bad as those DARE lectures wherein cops go around to schools and stare at teenage girl's tits while talking about drugs.

Just a word about not having nice things ...
those birds were protected in that sanctuary for a long time and if some drunks came along it doesn't mean such sanctuaries can't continue to exist.

I agree for the most part but I do question the wisdom of creating a wildlife sanctuary that's surrounded on two sides by a neon casino and on a third side by a buffet. Don't get me wrong, I like walking out there with the big birds and the giant goldifshes and formerly, the penguins but as Logan Five used to say, "There is no Sanctuary!"

Many an urban university is actually a game preserve, many a skyscraper has a cement skylobby that is legally a public park... you can have a sanctuary in an unusual location. National parks and national recreation areas and national wildlife conservation areas co-exist despite absurd boundaries. Transitions between beaches and nude beaches can have interesting definitions.

how much you want to bet those birds were making an awful noise?

which reminds me, I wonder how much scientists now are wondering about the connection between the behavior of modern birds and the putative behavior of, say, T Rex. Like, the kind of sounds they make. Suppose the extinct big guy gobbled?

The latest view is that the birds are just pretty much what we have for dinosaurs now.

That makes it even worse! Those guys murdered a dinosaur!

Any awful noise was perceived solely by the drunks since the birds were several years old.
