This isn't what I was looking for, but this has last meal requests nationwide. Coke was requested seven times and Pepsi four. One person requested both.

My favorite, the guy who requested a lump of dirt.

I read in a prison survival book that the "last meal" thing never was what the public thought. Said usually the inmate was given a list and asked what they wanted. Sometimes the guards might have picked something up. But in most cases most of the meal was untouched.

I would like to think I could finish the meal if it was good. I would then request to shower so the coroner would have less work for himself.

Ever the thoughtful murderer, you would
make the ideal inmate.

I thought only Canadians said "pop" any more.

I've always said "pop". popvssoda.com has a cool map.

Indeed! What is the "other" word people say in North Carolina? Hopefully Doc can help us out.

my parents who grew up on the Canadian prairies used to call it 'soda pop' when I was a kid.

"Soda Pop"
(feat. Michael Bublé)

We're the love brigade
That sings serenades
Flying in G6 jets
Over woodland glades
These are canapés and not hand grenades
And that's the choice we made

Go USA
Or Taliban chic
If you got massive hands
Or tiny feet
Life hands you lemons then sell lemonade
It's the choice we made

So....
I'm gonna sell a soda pop
I wanna sell soda pop
I'm gonna sell soda pop
I wanna sell soda pop
Soda!
yoda!
Bop shoo wop

We like the birds
We go likely lads
I go on strike
We're not scab scab scabs
The love we lost when no one stayed
It's the choice we made

They wanna know
About the clothes we wear
If we swing both ways
But who stays there
As long as we get paid we don't care
The choice is theirs

So....
I'm gonna sell a soda pop
I wanna sell soda pop
I'm gonna sell soda pop
I wanna sell soda pop
Soda!
yoda!
Bop shoo wop

Come enjoy the madness
How you dance through the fire is all
That matters now
How can you resist us?
We are the business

So....
I'm gonna sell a soda pop
I wanna sell soda pop
I'm gonna sell soda pop
I wanna sell soda pop
Soda!
yoda!
Bop shoo wop

Come enjoy the madness
How you dance through the fire is all
That matters now
How can you resist us?
We are the business
So, so, so, so!

It was always pop growing up in the UK for me, never soda, occasionally 'fizz'y drink' down south. Coke was a type of drink (pepsi or coca-cola or some gawd awful own brand) or a type of coal. Lemonade (a clear drink in the UK, not anything like as acidic as the 'real' lemon stuff) was probably as popular as Coke growing up.

Some folks call all pop's 'ginger'. 'Fanta' (trade name for a orange fizzy drink) and 'Bru' (Irn Bru, a drink that outsells Coca-cola in Scotland) are also often used as a catch all term for drinks.

We called it soda pop in the 50's, tho we
seldom got to have any. We got Kool-Aid
because it was cheap. We had 8 flavors to
choose from, now there are 91. 40% of
sales are now to Hispanics and Blacks.
