And yet, yet, it didn't convince some of the brightest minds of our time. Hawking, Einstein, Asimov, Twain, Ben Franklin, Hemingway, Jefferson, Darwin, Bill Gates. All much smarter than me, and they were all atheists. All thinking men are atheists. Ernest Hemingway Lighthouses are more helpful then churches. Benjamin Franklin There once was a time when all people believed in God and the church ruled. This time was called the Dark Ages. - Darwin The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason. Ben Franklin Men rarely (if ever) manage to dream up a God superior to themselves. Most Gods have the manners and morals of a spoiled child.-- Heinlein Which is it, is man one of God's blunders or is God one of man's? Nietzsche If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Maybe you can explain to me why your old men are better than my old men? I could produce a much longer list of brilliant Christians and other believers in God, but I have to admit their quotes won't be as mean. According to your own logic I don't know how this advances your argument, but it does make you look like your flailing. Because they're selling nothing and could care less what you think of they're opinion on religion. They don't have an agenda, they aren't preaching or trying to convert anybody. They're aren't making outrageous claims they can't prove. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Oh really...
outrageous and not only unprovable but demonstrably false.
outrageous and unprovable as stated. What does he mean by helpful?
outrageous, selling myths about the dark ages with an agenda, and unprovable. Really ALL people?!?
outrageous, obviously has an agenda, and demonstrably false by showing reasonable believers.
outrageous and definitely has an agenda and trying to sell you something. It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures. ( |

The religion threads are difficult to read. General decorum is to respond to the initial post, and to start a new thread if you have a tangential subject. The initial post was about Mariology, and people kept to the topic for a while.
See, this is a question about the topic. Pederasty in society as a whole and in the Catholic church is a divergent topic. |

I can't do this anymore, padre, you win. You're starting to remind me of the guy in Ward C who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt and won't be satisfied till he's convinced you he is, cause then he'll know for sure he really is TR. You can't prove a negative no matter how hard you try. Save it for the choir.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25013 | I realized last night I always get irritated when forced to discuss religion seriously. It's a huge waste of time for me and I don't like wasting time. It's like somebody wants to discuss if Winnie the Pooh and 100 Acre Wood was a real place. You know for a fact it's never was and will get real irritated real fast if forced to take it seriously. That's religion to me. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Instead of looking at it as religion then, why don't you look it as a discussion about the big questions of life? No one should consider it a waste of time to seriously discuss if there is a meaning to life or the origins of life and consciousness or what happens after we die. You give the meaning to life, not the other way around. And where were you before you were born. It doesn't bother anybody not knowing that, why should bother us where we 'go' after life's end. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
