Shonda Rhimes has managed to become one of the most powerful forces in ABC scripted drama with Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get away from Murder. ABC concentrates on female viewers, and Shonda has managed to introduce powerful black women characters which attract both black and white female viewers.

Keep in mind viewership for this blackish is 8-11 million total viewers, so the 2.7 million African American viewers alone are not enough to push this show into the top spot.

Right now it is ABC's second highest sitcom. First two are very likely to be cancelled in a few weeks.

I grew up on network TV, ABC NBC CBS, that was it.
These days, with so many choices, I see what the legacy 3 networks offer and think meh.
I was a huge "lost" series fan (ending sucked) . That was probably the last thing I watched regularly on network TV besides sports.
With so many choices, the old big 3 just isn't grabbing my attention when channel surfing.
