The US is quickly showing that we have turned ourselves into a nation of fat slobs with our hands outstretched for welfare. It will only get worse till it breaks us eventually. The grand experiment will go on the ash heap of history. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

China rule the world one day? Not going to happen. Their location alone makes it very hard. They have a better chance of breaking apart just as they have done several times in history. While the USA will be no more in 50-100 years what will happen is a breakdown of the nation-state as we know it. China peaked about 4-5 years ago, a crash is coming there and the pain will be felt worldwide. The President is a fink. |

It's inevitable because they never quit. They have a philosophy of patience that transcends generations. And they're so damned smart. They have the highest scores in the world in the sciences. The West will decline, it has to. It no longer has the will to dominate, and the Chinese do. We're witnessing the meteoric rise of the welfare class right now. You think these people are going magically wake up and be productive one day? They'll riot and destroy the infrastructure before that ever happens. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I don't know if China will rule the world one day but you right when it comes to teaching and learning science. We have a real handicap in this country due to the conservative movement pushing science aside and teaching religion instead. One huge social problem China is facing that may affect the stability of their society in the near future is due to 1 child policy and old stereotypes regarding gender of the only child you can have. Males way outnumber females to a great degree. Sometimes we live no particular way but our own - Grateful Dead "Eyes of the World" |

China has spent most of its time since 1500 being either fragmented or dominated by outside nations.
Yes, they have high scores, but what does that get them? They have a society that is to put it simply not really creative. So they can knock off most products the west makes, or they can hack our systems. But to be dominate you need to create those products and systems. The USA did well for several reasons, two were that we were located on both oceans and became the cross-roads of world trade. Another is that we were made up of 85% motivated people who either got fed up with and left or plain got thrown out of all the good countries. New ideas could take hold. China has neither of these. Right now China is turning out junk for the Harbor Freights of the world and making little profit doing it. They buy US Treasuries because they do not get a good ROI in China. Eventually it will collapse. Now, I do not deny it is over for the USA. We have too large a welfare class and too many people are hung up on class and racial pettiness they will not let themselves get over. Since the moon shots ended we by and large do not want to achieve things. Too many people want the government to protect themselves from anything that can go wrong in life. When the USA collapses the navy that protects the water and the financial system that makes trade work end. And then the world moves to barter, and the delivery may or may not make it. At the moment no other nation has the desire and ability to replace that. In the end it may be our savings, like a crew of workers who hate the boss but none want to step up so they keep him in charge. The President is a fink. |

Nooooooooo, that's not it at all! It's because teachers these days are poorly trained cretins, and kids are coddled and spoiled brats. The education system has been going downhill since the Lib unions took it over in the 60's and 70's. I remember PJ O'Rourke wrote in the 80's that when he was in college in the late 60's, if he wanted to get laid, always seek out girls who were education majors. He said they were dumb as rocks and getting laid was almost a sure thing. I dated a couple of teachers in the 70's, how they ever got thru college is a mystery. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Of course. I guess I thought that was obvious in context. |
