Does anyone here know what Nareed does for a living? It's obviously office work, but do they sell widgets, or what. It's never mentioned. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Wow, I don't know any companies that give an employee notice when terminating them. Many will give an extra few weeks of pay but no one wants a terminated employee killing morale and possibly harming the company in other ways. When I have to terminate people I require that they are supervised from the time of notice until they exit the building. It can be awkward standing there while they clean out their office. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

An employee who's been loyal, productive and an asset to the team for five years, deserves a little notice. Also it gets you time for the employee to hand over their tasks and pending matters to someone else. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

It has been done both with and without notice where I work. I think generally, when a position is being eliminated, it is with notice. When a person is just let go for whatever reason and their position is to be re-filled, it is without notice and with an escort. "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts." Fleastiff Member since: Oct 27, 2012 Threads: 62 Posts: 7831 | It used to be that an employee was expected to give two weeks notice and the company usually would too although sometimes it was an extra two weeks salary in lieu of notice but for a long time now everyone gets the employee in, takes away parking and access cards, changes passwords and escorts them around the office or even boxes things up for them rather than even letting them return to their cubicle/office/whatever. One Chicago law firm was famous for giving two cardboard boxes to any of their new associates who failed to pass the bar exam and having them leave thirty minutes after the results were posted. I've seen attorneys go out the door two hours after the insurance company said they would no longer pay the bills. I've seen law firms promise 'permanent' positions but knowingly were hiring for one case only and if that one case settled the 'permanent' hires were out at the end of that day. Loyalty is for days gone by. So is honesty. |

Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | I got a really moronic survey request from my bank the other day. I deleted it. i got several more. so I answered it. They wanted to know, get this, whether I'd recommend the branch I went to to friends or family. Now, why would I recommend a bank branch? People visit the bank for five main reasons: 1) to straighten out a problem, 2) to make a payment, 3) to make a deposit, 4) to withdraw money (yours or someone else's through a check, payment order, etc.), 5) to close or open an account. What branch do you visit? well the one for the bank the service is for and past that, the one that's closest to your home or office (or, given the case, the one that opens Saturdays). Would i recommend a bank? Sure. But in the end all cause problems, just some more than others. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | Someone passed me an Uber invoice for 2.25 pesos. the summary states the trip was 1.72 kilometers and took 7 seconds. By my calculations, the average speed was 880 kph (546 mph). That's the average, as I assume a standing start and a stop at the end. I know this can be calculated, but not how. I think the acceleration and deceleration would be awesome and probably deadly. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

It was invented 200 years ago in Russia. When it is made from corn it is typically labelled "corn syrup", but the more general term refers to the fact that it can be made from potatoes and wheat, and less often from barley, rice and cassava. Its major uses in commercially prepared foods are as a thickener, sweetener, and humectant (an ingredient that retains moisture and thus maintains a food's freshness). Glucose syrup is also widely used in the manufacture of a variety of candy products. In the United States, cane sugar quotas raise the price of sugar; hence, domestically produced corn syrup and high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) are less expensive alternatives that are often used in American-made processed and mass-produced foods, candies, soft drinks and fruit drinks to help control cost.

Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | Ok, so I call the bank today about a credit card that's about to expire. I swear they told me "the courier service reports the replacement card could not be delivered because there was no one home. It also reports it was delivered without receipt." I translate that as "Let's dump it in the sewer and say we delivered it." Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |
