Beds instead of seats.

Is this the best idea to attract older people, or will they just point out that they can turn on the TV and fall asleep at home for less money.

Bad idea hygiene wise. I don't want to lay
where 300 strangers have laid, without
something between me and the surface.
Yuk.

Speaking as one, I can say I really don't want to go to the movies. I will go to see "Atlas Shrugged III" when it comes out. About once every 18 months I see something I like and may go. Otherwise what is the point? Most times I go to movies it is to do a trailer audit.

We've had this discussion many times. Movies
are a throwback to a hundred years ago when
nobody had private entertainment in their homes.
TV came along and stole 70% of movie goers
eventually. Now flatscreens and Netflix are stealing
the rest. The concession stand is 90% of the reason
people go now, so they can stuff their fat faces in
the dark. A friend of mine says if your on a road trip
or at the movies, those calories don't count.

I can't go to movies tired, or I will probably miss part of it.

I have been to movies where the volume is so loud (like movies where there is constant explosions and noise), I'm not sure it is possible to actually doze off.

I notice this also, it can't be good for
your hearing. I use headphones at
home, but never have them turned
up loud. I haven't listened to the
radio in my car in 10 years, it's too
distracting. Many people want to go
thru life being distracted, like being
alive is a distraction to them.

I have heard that this is just the new generation of directors and how they do things. Years ago the got awards for creative sounds, since computers do all of that now they can only turn it up to be "creative."

Best would be cheap beer and then have the beds in a separate area at a surcharge marketed as "Relaxation and DUI Avoidance Suites".

I think the bottom line is that movie industry knows it hit the all time post WWII peak of selling 142 million tickets to The Sound of music when color TV was first becoming widespread. and the population USA and Canada was roughly 200 million.

They came close again in 1997 when Titanic sold 128 million tickets when the population of USA and Canada was approaching 300 million but before TiVo, Netflix, and DVD's.

The estimate is that the industry sold 1.5757 billion tickets in 2002 in Northern Americas and that was the peak.

So rather than try to cater to North Americans with some tricks that might pull in a few hundred thousand extra tickets, you can sell to the 1.3 billion Chinese. Once enough screens are open, it should be a piece of cake to sell a few billion tickets in a year.

Best idea: Boobs
Worse idea: More pre-movie commercials for anything besides other movies.
