It is why we had the US Army paying Civil War survivor benefits to women in the 21st Century. Young girls saw a steady check, hooked up with a lonely old vet, and collected, collected, collected.

Wow, I thought the last Civil War pensioner died in the late 1980's, but nope : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gertrude_Janeway - died in 2003, still collecting a $70 cheque every two months. The last widow died in 2008, but wasn't collecting a pension from her husband since 1937.

Apparently 2 children of civil war veterans were alive in 2012, and collecting pensions... one died August 2012 aged 93 : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2296995/Child-Civil-War-veteran-STILL-receiving-soldiers-pension-nearly-150-YEARS-conflict-ended.html (as much as I hate referencing the Daily Mail)

Children children as in minors? Apparently the wife doesn't care to give the money back to them, so they're screwed. She better be sure those kids aren't psychopaths before she starts spending the money.
