Face Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 61 Posts: 3941 | So there's wild hippos in South America now? I find it interesting the effect of man on animal habitat. Snakehead in the east, pythons in Florida, now hippos in SA. Weird for now, but will probably be "normal" in a lifetime. Even the largemouth bass is a non-native placement into the north, and it's as accepted as anything. From what I've seen, the fight against invasive species is largely folly, as long as far travel is available. Quagga mussels, Asian carp, gobies, sea lamprey, emerald borers, the list grows by the month sometimes. Maybe just let it go and see what happens. Give me a home where the buffalo roam, and the dik-dik and white rhino play. Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |

I wouldn't say that. Pablo escobar brought 3 or 4 and since he was gunned town 20 years ago, there are now about 40-50. They were eating small dogs and muscling the cows around, so one was killed. But convservation groups son't want to see anymore shot. They are not free ranging, but they are not in pens either. |

We are not bear food, and if it isn't threatened it should leave you alone. With that thing, I wouldn't know what to do. It would scare me senseless. |

As big as? Hell no, at least not around here. A HUGE black is about 500lbs. Most are 2-300. A grizzly, sure. Those will reach 1,100 and tear that piggy up. A black wouldn't touch it. Size being equal I'd take a black over a boar everyday. If I saw that thing, is be cursing my .40cal cuz I don't think 10rds would be enough. Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |
