In 2008, he wrote a proposal to conduct a photography survey of the island, which is usually off-limits to the public. The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation agreed to grant him access on the condition that he only visit between September and March, months when migratory birds—including gulls, herons, cormorants, and egrets—are not nesting there.

Humans are gone for awhile. Nature takes over.
But humans trashed the place and then left.

As soon as humans leave nature trashes things herself.

Nothing lasts without being cared for and this isn't surprising. I've always found it interesting how anything we make will be gone in no time once the weather has its say.

The 2 acre lot next to me was cared for years
ago by an old couple who was going to build
a house there. They left 15 years ago and it
now belongs to their kids. It was like a park
when they took care of it, now its a jungle
of fallen trees and thick undergrowth. In just
15 years.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
