That's the way they talk about UBI now, but my plan for UBI would be more akin to, "Guaranteed Minimum Income." If you're already making more than the cutoff, then you have already exceeded the guaranteed minimum income. I seriously doubt Jeff Bezos needs a UBI check.

Anyway, you and I both know (especially combined with our other spending/deficit/national debt) that there is no way UBI can feasibly happen on top of what the Federal Government is already doing---not to mention the other bull**** that the far left thinks we can also do at the same time. (Free Healthcare For All, Free College Tuition for All, $15 Federal Minimum Wage, etc...)

I am simply proposing a new solution which is that we gut every single Federal entitlement program, and instead, every adult who makes $20,000/annually, or less, via employment will receive a monthly check for $1,000.

If you do that you will get what we have now, jobs going begging because people getting government checks refusing to work.

At $12,000/year? I seriously doubt it.

Also, my plan is designed to incentivize part-time work because making it so up to $20,000/annually in earned income can only help you. The only area you wouldn't want to be is in the $20,000-$32,000 earned income range, but that could even be remedied by giving a reduced UBI check to bring you up to what would otherwise be the cap (assuming you get a check at all) of $32,000.

Anyway, this plan would actually save taxpayers a ton of money. It would also eliminate both Federal Medicare/Medicaid AND Social Security withholdings, so everyone wins.

Here's the thing. I saw this when I did taxes.

People at this level already work EIC to death. They know how it works better than a CPA. They got so POed if they worked more hours and their EIC got reduced. They do not want to work to a higher level, just their comfort level.

That's perfectly fine. Let them maximize it to the greatest extent possible by making $19,999.99/annually, if they want to.

What difference does it make when you have gotten rid of:

1.) Every Federal entitlement program.

2.) Medicare/Medicaid Tax Line Items (1.45% for employees & 1.45% for employers)

AND:

3.) Social Security Tax (6.2% for employers & 6.2% for employees)

Not to mention that everyone pays those things, so that means everyone saves that money. For individuals, you're looking at payroll taxes totaling 7.65%, so:

12000/.0765 = 156,862.75 (Rounded)

At the level of Earned Income $156,862.75, you are also now saving an extra $12,000/annually, cash.

If you make $100,000/annually, then you will save $7,650 by not having to pay those taxes.

If you make $75,000/annually, then $5,737.50.

If you make $50,000/annually, then $3,825.

Long story short, everybody gets more cash money. Even the lower-income folks, because now not only do they qualify for the Universal Basic Income (up to $12,000/annually) but they also do not pay Social Security or Medicare tax.

For more simplicity, we eliminate the EIC completely and those earning $40,000, or less, per year (including or not including UBI) simply do not pay any Federal Income Tax of any kind. We also eliminate tax deductions for minor children, so all taxes are based solely on individual income.

And...problem solved.

Forget UBI: too socialist.

Maybe it's time for a bit of fascism?

End the dole: zero handouts.

If you cannot support yourself and your family the gov't will swoop in and relocate you to a work camp where you'll be given the training, tools, and opportunity to rebuild our infrastructure.

There's nobody that can point out any flaw in my plan in terms of cost-savings other than the general despising of the idea of giving people free money---even if it's cheaper to do that than it is to give them the stuff that they (should) use the money on in a roundabout way.

I already gave you the flaw. Even if you are fine with it the general public is not ready to let people die on the street. Your plan strips the funds from health care, not just Obama care but all the people that used to go to hospitals with no medical and still get treated. Your overhead will still be large because it isn't universal so will need a large bureaucracy to run it.++

The checks they get ARE the fund for health care, if that's what they choose to spend the checks on. They are getting cash money and my $12,000 is just a baseline. It's capable of going up and the initial amount can even be indexed to inflation---which is what we already do with Social Security payouts and what they should have done with minimum wage.

Charities can chip in and help people who can't afford healthcare. Individual states can continue to offer Medicare/Medicaid (or equivalent) if they wish to fund that and have the tax capacity to do so. This entire plan of mine only involves what the Federal Government does or does not do and does not prohibit individual states from doing anything.

As far as running it goes, it makes sense to me that it would be administered by way of the IRS which might need to be expanded a little bit, yes, but you are eliminating a huge percentage of Federal Healthcare Administration, ALL of HUD and ALL of a few other departments.

Besides, I'd imagine that most of the disbursements and income verifications would be handled electronically. Obviously, collecting a check of this nature due to unreported income would carry a pretty substantial penalty if you couldn't pay the ill-gotten UBI funds back in a timely way.
