That is a common talking point in the conservative media. And, it had been going around for years, but it is simply a talking point conservative media loves. He is actually pretty moderate.

NYS now allows undocumented immigrants to apply for a drivers license.

In order to shield these people from Federal Law enforcement, New York refuses to share DMV records with Federal agencies. It is the only State that does that.

One of the problems caused by this policy is at the Canadian and Mexican borders where license plate readers are installed to read every license plate at the crossings. The information is automatically displayed for the border officer to see. The drivers license can also be scanned.

When a NYS registered vehicle arrives at a crossing, the screen is blank. There is no way for the Officer to determine whether there is an alarm issued for the vehicle, of whether the driver is wanted by the police, because NYS also refuses to share criminal records with the Customs and Border Protection.

The policy also inhibits the ability of Homeland Security and the CPB, to confirm whether an individual applying for the Trusted Traveler program, meets program eligibility requirements.

Criminals need not apply.

In response, Homeland Security has suspended Global Entry to all residents of NYS. We can no longer apply for PreCheck, Nexis, Global Entry and Clear. If a NYS resident already has it, and it expires, they cannot reapply.

Cuomo refuses to change the policy. His response is “We will deal with each case on an individual basis”.

Expect to see longer lines at the borders and airports because of Cuomo.
