What Movies Have You Seen Lately?

I watched M3gan last night. First thing I stumbled across last night. A 4-foot female robot kid who becomes an out-of-control homicidal maniac.

Since I didn't turn it off half-way through, I guess I can rate it as good enough.

I can't remember any scene I got bored with, so that's good.

Most memorable line. "Here is the part where you run." She's addressing a boy bashing her while she was in a prior inanimate state. Rips his ear off and chases him until he runs in front of a car.

Wife and I enjoyed "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery."

Daniel Craig has found a nice follow up to being James Bond; still odd though to watch a Brit speak with a Southern drawl.

I was wondering while I was watching if this was a true story. Pretty good flick.

I saw "Project Hail Mary" last night. I liked it up to about the initial mystery being resolved. I felt about a half hour could be edited out. Not a specific scene just too drawn out. Once it gets into the resolution stage, I thought it was pretty obvious a certain conclusion of the film was going to eventually happen so was impatient with all the extra development.

In the half hour of trailers there was a new sci-fi film from Spielberg that looked interesting. "Disclosure Day". Otherwise, I didn't see anything I want to see. I think I'm down to about 2 movies a year in theaters.

$21 for a small diet coke and small popcorn!

Saw Odyssey in IMAX yesterday. The movie making and cinematography was par excellence. I did not, at all, object to any of the casting decisions and every thespian hit their mark and then some. John Leguizamo, Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway were especially great. Some quibbles: (1) Movie was kinda loud, and not in a good way. Some of the dialogue got muddled. But, that could just be my old ears getting hard of hearing (2) I could've done without the grotesqueness of the scenes with the cyclops or with the witch. IYKYK. (3) Story was bleak, which is the way Homer wrote it. But, nobody taking the voyage(s) could catch a break except for one character. (4) While the performers spoke in American-accented English, some of the words and phrases were anachronistic to the time period, a pet peeve of mine. But, que sera I guess. A good flick, but I didn't think it was the world-beater some critics saying it is. Worth an IMAX matinee ticket.

There was some criticism of Elliot Page's casting. I thought it was spot on. There was also some criticism of a speech made towards the end of the movie, lamenting the horrors of war. I thought the speech was a good one, especially for a peoples who want nothing more than to be civilized and live in peace.

I also saw Project Hail Mary recently as well. What a fantastic film! Of the two, I liked PHM better, just because the story was a better, funner story and while the overall plot was a dark one-the complete extinction of all life on two words in two different solar systems 16.3 light years away, and the deaths of all the adventurers save for 2, the "odyssey" of the two main characters was lighter and less bleak while en route.

I also saw Cocaine Bear recently. What a fun movie! It was a silly, absurd story that was never dumb or stupid.

PHM was very good, but I liked Hamnet even more.

Beard was real, actually. He was a quiet warrior, sick and tired and weary of war. His character's entire experience can best be described as "Things were bad. Then it got worse." But, I hear you.

I suppose that makes sense, it's just that his portrayal did not match the image I had of the character back in the day when I read Homer's saga.

The black actress portraying Helen of Troy did a fair job but hey, she was black, not fair skinned and truly beautiful as I had pictured Helen to be.

One other nit-pick: there was a scene recounting the warriors exiting the Trojan horse then opening the gates to let their fellow soldiers in to sack and burn Troy; I had to snicker in disbelief at the scenes where Troy was on fire and the stout, massive stone walls collapsed in the flames as if made of wood.

My 12 year old grandson watched the flick with me and his two comments were that it was the longest movie he'd ever seen and that it was "great."

I guess to him it made the same impression as I had when I first watched "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" when I was a kid.
