I think Leonardo DiCaprio has a wide range. Same with Heath Ledger.

Both ultra talented actors and De Caprio can also make box office gold. But my point is that there are plenty of movie stars that operate on a very limited range, and people are just as happy to spend their money on a reliable personality that doesn't surprise or challenge them.

Dwayne
$1,516 Furious 7
$1,236 The Fate of the Furious
$962 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
$789 Fast & Furious 6
$643 Moana
$626 Fast Five
$474 San Andreas
$426 Rampage (2018)
$376 G.I. Joe: Retaliation
$335 Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
$738 million average

Leonardo
$2,129 Titanic
$828 Inception
$533 The Revenant
$425 Django Unchained
$392 The Wolf of Wall Street
$354 The Great Gatsby (2013)
$352 Catch Me If You Can
$295 Shutter Island
$292 The Departed
$214 The Aviator
$581 million average

Acting skills, trust, money.

Producers, investors and completion bond companies often have to weigh skills with box office history.

Certain actors are clearly trusted.

Consider In The Heat of the Night when the black police officer from the north and the white police chief from the south are talking and drinking beer in the police chief's home. The script simply read "they sit and talk" there were no lines and no suggested topics.

Some impromptu actions reflect skill. One actor adlibbed a line and induced another actor to sputter his drink all over the set thus inducing the director to keep that footage in the movie. Harrison Ford had a script wherein the heroine says "I love you" and Ford replies 'I love you too' but Ford felt it would be more in keeping with the character to say 'I know". Sometimes some flubs or ad libs become a memorable moment in the film. The famed sword play scene wherein the hero simply pulls out a pistol and shoots the swordsman at a great distance was based on an off-hand comment by Harrison Ford to the director about how late in the day it was getting to be. The director immediately told the star to do it that way but carefully avoided letting the well rehearsed swordsman learn of the change. Perfect reaction from the surprised swordsman and from the audience.

And I like Dwayne.

My understanding is Hitchcock
allowed zero adlibbing in his
movies. In fact it pissed him off.

I like Dwayne Johnson. He doesn't take himself too seriously. You can see it in movies like Baywatch -- he plays it like a satire of himself. Still, he isn't just a good looking actor. There was a movie where he played a grifter in Washington or Alaska that was quite entertaining but down to earth. He also played a football coach at a reform school and nailed the role. I'd like to think that if you met him in an airport or something he would actually be nice to you.

Should I be worried I can't remember titles of movies I've seen? This has been getting worse and worse.

I have a very good memory, and
have a hard time with movies
and actors names. It's like I know
it so well and that makes it hard
to remember.

Several of his movies have been made in Vancouver, BC and he has been very accessible while there. Always has time for the fans. Even had his driver stop and spent a few minutes talking to a fan that who was sitting beside the road with a sign saying he wanted to meet him. Not sure how many know but he played football for a while in the Canadian Football League but was eventually cut. Now he laughs and says it was the best thing that ever happened to him.

That's what imdb was invented for. If you can't remember a title you usually remember one person in the movie. There are enough cross links to help you with get there.

If you're a fan of the movie, Kubrick, or Jack Nicholson, this is must see. I know I've seen the movie at least 2 full times, if not 3.

Mama Mia is back. No Streep, has the
hugely talented Lily James (Downton
Abby) as the young Streep character.
