| Gandler Member since: Aug 15, 2019 Threads: 30 Posts: 5469 | Should slaves have received reparations in 1865 when freed? I am of the opinion that they should have. They were unjustly enslaved, and used for forced labor in horrendous conditions. I can't think of somebody who deserves reparations more. How do you prove who is a descendant of a freed slave in the U.S. in 1865? I do not know. But, ideally in 1865 they would have been well compensated. Reparations are not inherently bad. For example the Federal Government also issued reparations to survivors and families of U.S. internment camps in WWII (primarily Japanese, but some others as well.) This was far easier because there were detailed logs of which families were rounded up and how long, and many of the people were still alive at the time (early 90s I believe the process started.). But, I don't know a single person who disagreed with these reparations. |

I know how that goes. Lots of acres in Death Valley available. Plus you can eat the mule when it dies of heat stroke. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 166 Posts: 6463 | per googlebot, "Virtually 0% of freedmen permanently received "40 acres and a mule," as the federal government overwhelmingly revoked the land titles shortly after issuing them. While roughly 1% of the 4 million freed slaves briefly settled on temporary plots, the policy was rapidly overturned, leaving the vast majority with nothing" San Fran hopefuls take heart, white people were meaner back then. I have no doubt the San Fran fund has millions and millions of dollars to distribute, even though the googlebot says "philanthropic contributions ... have not been publicly quantified" I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

So they were enslaved, freed? Promised reperations, kind of issues such (at least partially,) and had the payment seized within a few months? Reperations for slavery seem pretty justified. 150 years later, how do you prove which heirs from back then deserve what? |

They could probably do a lot more now with DNA. If Gandler were .01% slave related, you would get whatever that is divided by other costs. Or you could take what's behind door #3. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |
