SOOPOO be crazy. I was actually going to address Gandler's prediction that it would be bad for the Democrats. Not anymore, because Trump is attempting to double down and despite what he claims tariffs ARE NOT AT ALL popular. He's just made himself BAD DONNY all over again. Trump is actually helping the Democrats with this response. Also the lower courts deciding refunds is actually a lot better than just the members of SCOTUS deciding. So, that was the best option. It needs to be a careful decision as possible. Eventually SCOTUS will render the final decision but will have more input by then. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

| SOOPOO Member since: Feb 19, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 5730 | You are seriously asking me why Trump is acting like a petulant toddler? Is water wet? Is ice cold? Answering Geno, you made my point. He can’t use that mish mosh of letters to impose tariffs. So he’ll just use the ridiculously ambiguous ‘national security’ BS to impose them. I’ll agree with the lefties here that none of this is good for Republican chances this November. |

I didn't make your point. I answered your question. So the court shouldn't have struck down an unconstitutional order because there are constitutional ways to do the same thing? And some well funded petitioner, possibly using their tariff refund, to challenge those tariffs as well. |

No. I’ll agree with you. If the SC interpreted Trump’s tariffs as not being done properly (shocking!), then good. Another example of the conservative SC following the law and not ‘bowing to Trump’ or whatever gibberish MrV will post. My point is just if the doofus in chief gets to just SAY the tariffs are back in effect because of National Security, how did Trump lose? |

Because the law he invoked to impose the now 15% global tariffs (a) limit the tariff to 15% and (b) limit them to 150 days. What happens on day 151 if Congress doesn't authorize an extension? You think Congress will extend tariffs that increase prices of consumer good and raw materials in an election year? Because the "national security" tariffs also have specific limitations, such as investigations and recommendations by the secretary of commerce, as well as limited by sectors and not blanket by country. Your boy Donny is pulling a temper tantrum because he can't just do what he wants now, and has to follow other laws that limit his authority in ways the other tariffs weren't. He also loses because he now has to possibly refund every penny of the illegally collected tariffs. That'll put a big hole in his plan to give tariff checks to American taxpayers. |

Like the hole in the ground where the East Wing used to be and like the spiraling National Debt and like the destroyed reputation of the US and the [insert your own list of consequences], all these problems will carry forward into the next administration, which will be strongly criticised for its inability to put everything right, and so will only last one term. Donny will be long gone when the invoices fall due. |

Yes, but the American People and the following democratic president and congress will (hopefully) remember and joyfully dismantle all the MAGA bullshit which the fat oaf has created. Destroy the ball room Rename the (former) Kennedy Center. Impeach him, if still alive, and "claw back" from his estate / Trump, Inc. all the ill-gotten loot which he's used his position to acquire. The list will (hopefully) go on... *golf clap...can't wait* |

Barely a brick will have been put down and the supposed donations will be gone like a fart. Who will want to pay for the rebuild? Strip trumps name from everything and re-use the signage to rename every municipal dump and public washroom. But trump is already copyrighting the use of his name, so the [****] will want royalties.
You're living in a dream. You know civil law doesn't work that way. Hopefully. But it will take decades and money to expunge the stains he's creating. |
