So. drumph likes the idea of Israel's 'Iron Dome' and wants a big shiny 'Golden Dome' to shield the entire US. Reminiscent of Reagan's Star Wars idea, that never actually got anywhere.

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/03/22/politics/pentagon-golden-dome-scramble/index.html

drumph is surely the least technically skilled or indeed technically curious about anything from this universe's realm of physics and he seems a bit off in his idea of fiscal responsibility. By his own words, he 'has a natural instinct for science' because he had an uncle at MIT.

Now, just a few issues with this Golden Dome concept.

USA has an area 460 times the size of Israel and a perimeter about 11 times as big. There are zero bordering enemy nations next to the USA that have ever hinted at lobbing rockets over the border ( even though drumph has tried to convert Canada and Mexico into enemies) The scale of defensive capability required is unknowably huge and maybe someone should do a costing before placing any orders. But hey ho. drumph has instructed his admin to budget for such a system. Lockeeh Martin is licking its lips and already tendering ideas.

What the USA MIGHT one day need is a way of shooting down hypersonic missiles, but those could come in from a wide assortment of directions faster than any existing technology could counter. And while drumph spends all your money on figuring how to shoot thode down, there remain plenty of ways to 'blow up' America using simple slower tech like happened on 9/11

Meanwhile, in other news drumph wants to cut spending on everything, including a 40% cut in defense spending.

The concept of a ‘Golden Dome’ makes sense. The practicality probably not so much. There are likely certain parts of the plan that would get bipartisan support if the Democrats would agree with a single thing Trump proposes. They just cannot.

I can't agree to the process. We will improve SOOPOO'S house. Frist we rip it apart. Then see what he thinks he needs and put it back together piece by piece.

I don't trust him with science
I don't trust him with finance
I don't trust him with Defense and negotiations with bad people.
He can't follow the law 90% of the time.
He rails against honest people when he's the one dishonest.
He lies way above average compared to most politicians.
He's probably dangerous to democracy.

Oh yeah, if I did work for Biden, Clinton, Bush or Obama, I'd expect to get paid. Trump. I don't trust him to get paid.

Trump's a total loser asshole.

SDI had several successes. GPS and Patriot missiles to name two. Liberals laugh at big ideas for some reason.

Do you really think the Star Wars idea didn't get anywhere? I think you would be surprised of the number of weapons we have in space now.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent.

Bingo.

Space based weapons are the future.

Also likely the end, but hey, that's inevitable.

That is why Trump started the Space Force.

Bush abrogated the ABM treaty a couple decades ago but there still remains in effect the Outer Space Treaty which prohibits nations from having weapons of mass destruction in space.

So...the way to "play" is to not lob nukes at earth from orbiting platforms, but to develop killer satellites and systems to detect, intercept and destroy hypersonic and intercontinental ballistic missiles as they head toward the USA or targets we wish to protect.
