I agree that the dems have shifted further to the left than they were in the mid and late 1900's, and yes, Trump's election shows that many if not most Americans reject this change. It will be interesting to see how the dems try to reinvent / reposition themselves. |

Things will constantly change. It used to be the Republicans were the party of labor and the party that freed the slaves. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

I believe Reagan was the first one to say he didn't leave the party, the Democrat Party left him. Many many people feel this way and most of us can remember when Democrats were not all insane. Some celebrity the other day was saying that he remembers when he could have a political conversation with any of his friends and they would still be friends afterwards. He said it's not that way anymore, he has to watch every word he says because he's already lost so many friends because he's a conservative and Democrats are now certifiably insane to the point where they'll throw their friends overboard because of politics. He also said this started with Obama and he's right. Before Obama it was much different. It started to change in the 90s with Bill and Hillary and by the time it got to Obama things were very different. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

It didn't change with Obama it changed with the stupid Tea Party movement. There was no significant change from Clinton to Obama. They was a jealousy when Obama took out Hillary, but that wasn't any major change in policy., The Tea Party splintered the Republican party. Trump continued it. And made it worse in the worse way. C'mon man, you're old, you should remember how divisive and at each other's throats we were during the Vietnam war; hello, violence at 1968 Democratic convention; greetings, George McGovern in '72. We've always been pretty divided, i.e. have had disparate views; it's the advent of the internet, smart phones and worst of all, social media, that has allowed the political furor to foment and multiply. That and the failure of our institutions leading to "the dumbing down of America." ![]() |

The Tea Party put the RINIOs on notice that they will not be tolerated. It has improved the GOP. Kept it from following the Democrats left. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

The Democrats will keep moving left but it will be even harsher. They have taken the 20% side of so many 80/20 issues. They are on a path to being for radical social issues and the government swamp. This stance will go on for 10-12 years. In the late 2030s some "New New Democrat" candidate will come out of somewhere, using whatever media is supplanting podcasts by then. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |
