People thought that today's Monaco Formula One race (and Monaco, in general) was boring, but I liked it.

There was clearly next to zero opportunity to overtake in this race, but it's all about trying to pick your spots and time it just right. Still, maybe zero cars overtaken after the first lap isn't ideal.

Monaco is one focused on the driving and cutting around hairpin corners---it's kind of a driver's race. The focus is on them not making any mistakes as they will come within millimeters of disaster cutting around these corners. The broadcast could have definitely used more closeups of the cornering as opposed to all the overhead shots. The overhead shots aren't great if nobody is ever a threat to pass anyone else.

Okay, I guess I also thought it was boring, but I still liked it. It makes for some great close up replays on the corners. You can't help but be impressed with the pure driving.

I used to be an avid car racing fan: F-1, Indy car, local stock car track: but not any more.

Me and most of the rest of the viewing public have voted to move on.

As a kid, I couldn't get enough of the Demolition Derby. Figure 8 racing was also a go to.

And forget the Tour de France, this is the best bicycle racing.

As a kid I went to the drags up towards Tomahawk island at PIR. Watched big daddy Don Garlitts break 200mph in the 1/4, I believe? Two hundred was fast.

I'm not really a fan. My son likes it and wanted to watch it. I think F1 is pretty cool and would watch it again, but I probably wouldn't go too far out of my way to do it. Much better than cars driving in circles making all lefts.

I always say that I should just go to the laundromat and use one of the dryers with a transparent front, cheer for the blue shirt, as watch Nascar.

I guess Formula One goes to Austin, damn are tickets expensive! Not to mention the costs of having to travel to Austin. Hmmm....maybe next year.

It looks like they are having a new race in Miami next year, so the travel costs should be pretty low for that. I guess the downside is having to go to Miami, but that's okay. I might try to take him to that one---it'll be quite an experience for him.

There's a couple good F-1 movies out there.

An oldie but goodie (for its time, anyway) is James Garner's "Grand Prix."

A more recent and I believe better film is "Senna," about Ayrton Senna, a brilliant driver who died doing what he loved most.

You and I both watched parts of perhaps the most boring sporting event in the history of televised sports. There have been more aggressive passing in local funeral parades. No bumping, and no passing. What was the point, actually?

Watching Mickelson at 50+ win a major was spectacular.

I've been to one NASCAR race, in Martinsville. I took my younger son for a two night road trip years back. I like that track, because if you buy seats up pretty high, you can see the entire track easily. I gave it an A+ experience.

Nice! My son has no interest in Nascar for basically the same reason as the joke I made about it earlier. He likes F1 because it's more similar to actual driving one might encounter---just ridiculously fast.
