The article addresses those questions. Have you read it?

And if you're going to say 'greedflation' is really capitalism, then you also don't have the right to complain about high prices.

I complain about factors that are government induced that lead to ALL companies needing to raise prices. The easiest one is the massive increase in the minimum wage. It’s why the ‘$5 footling’ can’t be had for even $7 a few years later. It’s why my lawn mower guy charges me $30 this year instead of $25 last year. It’s NOT that Subway is making more $$, nor is my yard service company.

Subway is competing with McDonalds. The same forces cause the BigMac to be $5. A few years back it was 2 for $5! There IS real competition between Subway and McDonalds. If not for the ARTIFICIALLY high labor costs, you’d still get your $5 foot long.

There are 5 guys who want to mow my lawn. Same concept. They will go as low as possible to get my business. But the ARTIFICIALLY elevated wages he must pay prevent ALL yard service companies from offering lower prices.

Talk about intellectual lightweight! I live in NY. TOTALLY controlled by Democrats!
I live in the USA. You think Harris will sign any legislation that will lower the federal minimum wage?

THAT’S THE POINT! We have Democrats in control, and THAT IS THE PROBLEM. Check the minimum wage in Florida (mostly Republican control) versus Democrat strongholds like NY and California and tell me what you find out!

(Federal is actually relatively low as the House is (at least now) basically under (poorly organized, fractious) Republican control.

Stop calling ANYONE an intellectual lightweight when you make a post like that!

What you call ‘greedflation’ is really capitalism, right? It’s a company trying to maximize its profit. Or am I missing something? Aren’t there already a gazillion ‘anti-trust’ laws already on the books? And laws preventing monopolies on a bunch of businesses? Are you saying a company should sell a product for $99 instead of $100 because Kamala says so?

These lefties remind me of a video I saw where an investigative reporter asked liberals at some gathering of their "should we ban corporate profits?" Amazing how many agreed or mostly agreed!

"Profit" is a dirty word on the left, unless they are making it. They are free to demand minimum wage hikes even though that is greed on their part. But make a profit and end of the world.

Is it because the Republican party sucks?
Why can't Republicans win in NY?
Seems the people of NY happy with Dems in control

NY Democrats are (for the most part) the worst.

They are all pretty much Republicans who have realized that they can never get elected in NY as Republicans.

Happy enough because they keep electing them. NY has a disproportionate percentage of people on federal/state/local support. And those living of the teat of the government certainly don’t vote Republican. If having a job was a voting requirement you’d never see a Democrat elected again. .

I guess a lot has changed at DT since I last frequented the board. "Back in my day" this post would warrant a suspension.

From the article you won't read:

Quote:
Workers Get Disproportionately Blamed For High Prices

Typical inflation dogma is that consumer demand and labor costs drive inflation. Like Larry Summers would say, blaming business for it is “bad economics.” These orthodoxies are not supported by the math. Corporate profits as a share of the national income are at historic highs, while workers’ share is lower than before the pandemic. And labor shortages get a lot of media attention. Retail labor costs increased as food workers demanded better pay and benefits after getting stressed out, sick and even dying at work during the pandemic. But even if retail labor costs went up 50% across the board, this would result in price increases of just 5-10% at grocery stores, hardly justifying the price hikes in steaks, yogurt or hash browns.

While workers get disproportionately blamed for high prices, Wall Street profit rates are the highest since World War II and stock buybacks are at record highs. Walmart’sWalmart 0.0%WMT +0.5% Walton family has a combined net worth of over $238 billion, increasing by $8.8 billion from 2020 to 2022. The Mars family added $21 billion to their fortune from 2020-2021. Food and agriculture billionaires added $400 billion to their wealth from 2020-2021, with Covid-19-related food inflation creating over 60 new food billionaires. Sellers’ inflation is Robin Hood in reverse: massive wealth concentration bankrolled by consumer spending on necessities.

Stop blaming the lowest income workers for your prices being high. I am completely okay with paying a little more for my boneless chicken, sweet potatoes, canned pears and diet soda if it means workers make at least enough to put a roof over their heads, meat and potatoes on the table and keep the lights and the heat on at home. And if that interferes with the "free market", I'll take that all day long.

I also note that the only people who want to get rid of the minimum wage are the same people who argue for paying workers LESS.
