I’m liking Fetterman more and more each day.

I can appreciate any politician that refers to someone as a peckerhead.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent.

The shutdowns DO accomplish something..... Well maybe accomplish isn't the right word.

To those dependent on functional government it could be the difference between food and famine. With damaged credit ratings, the Fed might need to bump up interest rates, driving families and businesses to their own funding crisis.

We can certainly hope so.

They just averted the shutdown for 45 days.

And some dumbass Dem pulled a fire alarm. His career is over. I think we all should know it’s NOT A GOOD IDEA TO DISRUPT AN OFFICIAL ACT OF CONGRESS by now.

Good way to keep it talked about. I thought they’d at least have it go a few days first.

That's pretty sanguine, Mission.
If I thought the shutdown would impoverish me*, by pushing down the value of MY investments,I'd hope to see the lawmakers buck their ideas up and do the job they were elected and paid for.

45 days! Next time they can make it 30 days and then the whole country can live paycheck to paycheck.

Bowman might well live to regret setting off that alarm. Idiot!

Yeah? Well, if the US economy gets a flu and it develops into pneumonia for the entire world, then maybe we’ll quit being so ridiculous constantly.

Anyway, I wasn’t being sanguine. The only path back to sanity is step 1 of making an omelette.

If only humanity had some sort of ability to learn lessons. Not much evidence, though.

It seems the nature of politiccing that the only folks with the inclination to govern, are the ones least interested in, or capable of, serving their voters.

Integrity, Humility, Intelligence, Empathy, Honesty, Stability, Good Judgement, Vigour, Prudence...... All seem to be disqualifying features for politicians. All your politicians seem to have been vetted against that list. Some of your voters, too.

Learn lessons? I wish. We're actively becoming worse as a society. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy watching Rome burn. Want some popcorn? I actually think the longer we put off lighting the pyre the more the flames will engulf.

I agree with your other observations. I mean, most of them are fairly intelligent...as much as it pains me to admit it...but those other qualities simply don't correlate with someone having a ton of ambition and desire for power and authority---which are key elements to succeeding in politics.

Love or hate his politics, Fetterman really is a dude who just wants to help, but that is absolutely an exception to the rule. I can't take that away from him. Besides, Oz would have been the alternative that time around. Of course, I didn't actually vote for either of them, but I did consider voting for Fetterman.
