I’d consider giving any official a possible “out” if they can prove they asked their wife not to do something and she refused. They are independent people making their own decisions.

Someone offers Jill Biden $10,000,000 in some green company stock as a ‘consultation fee’ and she should be allowed to accept it?

Yes. I think if you are a married couple, and one of them takes on a few specific jobs ( President, Supreme Court Justice) then you have de facto agreed to have certain limitations that the general public would not have. It’s a fine line that’s hard to keep clear. Senator? Congressman? Dog catcher?

I know that Thomas’ wife is a Rightie. But I don’t think she gets millions for her views. I think the $$ makes it different.
