The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention logged 2,318 cases of measles

There's the root cause. The U.S. CDC&P logging team was not shut down quickly enough.
Typical admin incompetence. They won't make that mistake again.

Measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000.
This was thanks to a very high percentage of people receiving the safe and effective measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine.
In recent years, however: U.S. national MMR coverage among kindergarteners has decreased and is now below the 95% coverage target—with much lower coverage in some communities.

93% of those infected were either unvaccinated or of unknown vaccination status.

Bryan Kohberger wants to withdraw his guilty plea and go to trial.

No doubt families of the innocents whom he murdered hope the judge allows a new trial as the overwhelming evidence will almost certainly result in him being executed.

Hey Bryan...be careful what you wish for...

The US Department of Energy (DOE) on Sunday authorized the operator serving parts of 17 states to activate idle power sources in an effort to keep the lights on.

The move allows backup plants that are normally switched off to generate extra electricity if surging demand threatens to overwhelm the grid.

The emergency order covers Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri and Montana. It also includes Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

The move gives Southwest Power Pool (SPP), which oversees the central US grid, permission to deploy backup generators if electricity supplies become strained.

It is the final step before a Level 3 Energy Emergency Alert, which could trigger rolling blackouts to prevent a wider collapse.

The order will remain in effect through August 3 to 'mitigate the risk of blackouts,' according to the DOE.

It comes as 40 million Americans face extreme heat warnings, with soaring temperatures and oppressive humidity driving up demand for air conditioning.

Laughably, trump's administration is claiming credit for the resiliency...
""The Trump administration is tapping into an abundant supply of unused backup generation to maintain affordable, reliable and secure power for hardworking American families and businesses,” U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said in a ‌statement.

Thank fk there's no such thing as Climate Change and there's no risk to the global flow of energy supplies, or market disruption or restrictions on international energy sales.

the migration crisis in Africa gets little attention in the US, but once in a while you get a glimpse

in the news is @50,000 migrants in Morocco that rushed into a Spanish 'enclave' and caused Spain to send in the military. I have to think this means the number of surely illegal migrants populating Morocco is a multiple of that, easy to imagine as double or more. Who/what is sustaining these people?

As for why they would rush in, you can search that for yourself, use the word 'Ceuta' along with the general question. The primary cause seems to be '... in July 2026, the Spanish Supreme Court ruled that migrants intercepted at sea trying to reach Ceuta or Melilla cannot be summarily sent back under the special "border rejection" policy" which previously, presumably, was a godsend.

The migrants seem to be streaming back now.

Italy has suspended the passport free travel arrangement most of Europe has initiated , as an immediate response at least for that from Spain

The progressive countries in Europe who had lax immigration policies are reaping the whirlwind now, presumably regretting their actions.

Tough to get rid of an infestation of rats once it is established.

There has been movement of people throughout Europe and the Mediterranean for 3,000 years. No reason to think it's going to change any time soon.

Ah, but the SPEED and VOLUME or migration has increased exponentially since the dawn of man.

The influx of migrants to many liberal European countries has angered many of the residents, e.g. England and Germany and who the hell can blame them?
