Maybe your blame game is the one that’s complete crap, did you ever consider that!

If you open a store and then have to close it
Who should be blamed
Obviously if you can't make money at a location, the proper research has not been done to insure success.
There are 3 rules to have a successful retail business.
Location, location, location
Obviously Whole Foods management and Nordstrom management totally failed in that regard.

Idk I’m pretty sick of the complete pain in the ass retail with everything locked up and watching people openly stealing shit (including from cars) in SoCal and Vegas. Considerably lower quality of life having to deal with it than say, five years ago before policies were different, but the aholes that all work from home and order everything online think everything’s the same.

I used to watch a YT channel called "People Behaving Badly" which was a SF reporter who found quality of life issues and reported on them. He left the station and the videos were taken down. But while up he really showed the property crime issues in the Bay area. This was the late 2010s, before it was more widely noticed.

It was really bad. The park where you can look at the Bay Bridge he said you would be broken into if you left almost anything in view. Even had signs saying to not leave items in view. This was before they decriminalized lower value theft.

It really comes down to lefties who figuratively live on a college campus and not reality. They think if they are "less mean" there will be less crime. Somehow charging people with the crime they commit ruins their lives so better to just put up with theft. These people keep getting voted back in.

Now we are seeing chain stores just close up in these neighborhoods. Expect to see some kind of legislative attempt at forcing them to open or stay open eventually.

SF is getting another dose of reality.

Their office vacancy rate is the highest in the country around 30%.

A few large firms are trying to sublease their space because about half don't work in offices anymore (work from home).

Also, interest rates are going up and a large amount of lower interest rate debt needs to be rolled over in the next year.

What could happen next is to have the government socialize retail stores, as opposed to the private sector providing food and clothing, etc.

Cover the cost of theft in taxes.

Then after that, folks could buy the same uniforms to wear as clothing and all eat the same kind of food (organic there).

Do you use toilet paper to wipe your mouth? The Nordstrom store was in that location for 35 years, they didn't chose a poor location the location changed. We might not agree on why the location changed but it wasn't a poor decision on their part.

Totally understandable why this would be so upsetting to a Canadian like yourself.
