I can’t address Terapined and ams’s rants. Not worth it. But your point I can address. I have no problem with YOU discussing homosexuality and furry and queer and transgender topics with YOUR 6 year old. Go for it. I would be very comfortable with a law leaving those discussions out of the kindergarten classrooms. If you’ve read my posts over the years, I’d prefer those decisions to be made on the local level, as there are certainly differences of philosophies from rural Iowa to urban San Francisco.

I think it has been mentioned, maybe not in this thread, but DeSantis is trying to turn New College into something it is certainly not today. New College was an extremely liberal private college when my friend/colleague went there in the 70’s. The appointment of 6 conservative trustees…. It will be interesting to see what happens there…
My liberal friend is not optimistic.

Okay, these were the first grade reading materials at one time. see below. Gender/sex/racial bias needs to be eliminated across the board. Dick and Jane and their parents were biased to a set of values just as much as anything else. I see this as no differently than racial or religious discrimination to eliminate those other representations of real people in society.

Btw, hopefully they moved on from the Dick&Jane depictions.. Maybe they have kids with different skin colors, ethnicities, fat kids, kids in wheelchairs. And if kids have questions about these people teachers shouldn't have to worry about their jobs trying to dance around an ambiguous law.

Furthermore, if there is a depiction of a Muslim, Jew or Hindu in their material, teachers answering any questions about these people shouldn't be accused of teaching a religion if they answer any questions any more than answering about gender or sexual identity.
