The Supreme Court on Monday turned down a request from a former Colorado county clerk to halt her upcoming trial on charges stemming from her alleged involvement in an apparent security breach at the county’s election offices in 2021.

Justice Neil Gorsuch denied the request from Tina Peters, the former clerk of Mesa County, Colorado, and a prominent 2020 election denier, without comment.

The order came from Gorsuch because he oversees matters arising from the appeals court that rejected Peters’ efforts to throw out the criminal case.

The former clerk has pleaded not guilty to 10 state charges, including several felony counts, stemming from the apparent security breach in Mesa County’s elections office in May 2021.

The criminal investigation into the clerk’s office began after Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a Democrat, accused Peters and her deputies of facilitating the breach.

The breach resulted in confidential voting machine logins and forensic images of their hard drives being published in a QAnon-affiliated Telegram channel in early August 2021.

Two lower courts have rejected Peters’ attempt to throw out the criminal case. Peters has argued that she was acting “pursuant to an express federal order to preserve election records” and is therefore immune from prosecution.

Peters’ trial is set to begin on July 29.

PHOENIX (AP) — A former Republican lawmaker who questioned the integrity of Arizona’s elections and served as a leader for the conservative group Turning Point Action is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday for using nominating petitions that contained forged signatures in a bid to qualify for a 2024 primary election.

Austin Smith, 30, pleaded guilty in mid-November to charges of attempted fraudulent schemes and practices, and illegal signing of election petitions. He had acknowledged trying to use petitions with forged signatures that he knew were false and forging a dead woman’s signature on a nominating petition.

If a federal crime, best to just plead guilty and notify Trump to save all the hassle.

It’s good that an election stealer got caught! And convicted. It doesn’t matter which ‘side’ the criminal was trying to get in. Find and convict THEM ALL.

Seems a bit cavalier, indeed hypocritical of you to condemn those who steal an election but not condemn Trump for attempting to.

I believe Trump truly believes he won the election. That when he asked to ‘find XXX votes’ he believed they were actually cast for him. I do not believe he tried to steal an election. I believe in his mind he was trying to right a wrong.

I do condemn Trump for being stupid and actually believing he won in 2020. And for not acknowledging his loss. But not for criminally trying to steal the election.

On this we disagree; I believe he was an opportunistic megalomaniac who, as always, never admits defeat, never admits he is wrong, no matter what the facts are.

He knew he lost the election but he had nothing to lose and everything to gain by playing the cards he did the way he did.

In acting as he did he kept his MAGGOTS all fired up, which led to his ultimate reelection.

I don't give Trump all that much credit. Biden went into a coma, miscalculated a couple moves and Kamala depended too much on the overwhelming relief experienced by the Democrats as high support when Biden finally stepped down. The relief was not so much having Kamala, but Biden stepping down after waiting too long.

Then Democrats were caught in a trap of time, with no really good options.

Just like his first term, Trump loses popularity over time just like his first term. He didn't come out the last term smelling like flowers. It was manure. But unfortunately... events went as above.

Also both Biden and Kamala apparently decided the best strategy for some complaints, was just to ignore them. Even if you disagree, you have to come up with some reason you can actually push, not just ignore something. For every day conservatives were pushing open borders, Biden should have been just as loud about immigrations reform, work visa reform, whatever SOMETHING. You can't just let it go unanswered if the other side keeps pushing it.

Both events were unfolding simultaneously: Trump being the obnoxious douche he's always been, the dems floundering as Sleepy Joe nodded off.

And here we are: the lesser of two evils turned out to be very evil indeed.

The lesser of two evils begins with there being 2 evils. Only Donny was evil. Kamala was in no way evil. But because people had to rationalize their vote against Kamala and perhaps for Donny, here we are.

The electorate viewed her as "evil" due to her progressive program: conservatives viewed her as an existential threat, likely to encourage the BLM bullshit, increasing LGBT legitimacy and the like.

But yeah, unlike Trump her moral compass swings true.
