Do you feel safe about a AirB&b or a room at a casino?

I'd buy a spare air conditioner if I thought I could get it installed in time. For whatever the reason, our house included, the style was to put the AC units on the roof tops. IDK why? It takes a sizeable boom truck to reach up there and change it.

That's awful DRich, you have my condolences. Is there any way you can use a window mount or portable ac unit in at least your sleeping room?

Also as long as I'm pelting you with questions, why don't people have basements here?

62 for the low in Flagstaff, that is only about 4 hours from Vegas.

It is not all that bad. Last night I jumped in the pool to cool off before bed. I will probably do the same tonight.

We don't have basements here because the ground is too hard it is very expensive to dig here.

I've heard that, but they dig a lot of swimming pools?

And this why I got rid of central air
years ago and went with window
units. Much more efficient and I
always keep a new spare in the
garage in case one goes out. 10min
to do the switch.

Tell me about it. Two went bad on me this month! Had to get one of those floor units because there were no window units left in the county.

What I like about window units is they make it get really cold. Central A/C it is just "cool." I crank the bedroom unit so it is nice and cold when I go to bed. Even with that I have been sweating like crazy some nights, though part of that may be weird sleep patterns with surgery recovery. Anyhow, I grew up without central air and just window units. When I was really young we all had to pack into one room. Later we had several units. I look on that as something that built character, kids today do not understand. When I was a kid central air mad you "rich."

I grew up without air conditioning. About the time I was a teenager my parents got a window unit for their bedroom. On hot days we would all just sit on their bed and do nothing. There was no tv or radio in there.

In Phoenix the A/C went out once. Took a couple days to get a repairman out. IIRC it might have been a holiday as well. So I had my window unit from back east in storage so I got it after work. As I am getting home one of the roommates was walking out going to stay with his g/f. Invited me to stay as it was unsafe to be in the house more than a few minutes it was that hot. I said TBNT I had the unit and had to be there for repairman.

So I am bringing it in and she asks what on earth it was! I guess she had never seen one or something.

Spent 3 days in my room!

I got the first air unit when I
was 20. We never had it, my
old man was way too cheap.
The unit I can get today for
$99 cost me $400 50 years
ago. I looked it up, that's
$2600 in today's money. I
was paying Sears off forever.

My central air is fine in Florida. Maybe it loves the humidity. Kept it at 77 for a couple months now.

But I have a couple remote control 8 speed extremely quiet dyson fans to supplement cooling where ever I am. They were worth every penny.

This has been the hottest since I've been here. Used to keep it at 78 all the time.

Air conditioning in cars was an extra. Remember driving in hot weather with the "wing window" open? Maybe someone remembers a "boda bag" that was hung on the outside that would cool the liquid inside while traveling? I knew someone who cooled their wine that way hanging it on the side view mirror back in the day.

I don't think they make window units in the size I would need? I need them the size to replace our glass doors and the front bay window. This place is well insulated but the temp outside is hard to imagine. I tried a window unit in my little garage woodshop and it works ok for a 12x8, but cooling the rest of the garage would take an unholy amount of cooling.

Most floors here are cement as is mine. With the heat and central air turned off for weeks in the winter the house remains in the 70's because the earth temp gets so high now. It's as hard to explain 115* as it is to tell someone just what it's like to mess around outside at 40 below. You can imagine it, but not what it's really like when metal changes property's. Rock or metal is the only thing that will hold up against this sun.
