Sadly, yes. What we used to call 'mentally retarded' patients often needed to be put to sleep for lab work, routine dental exam, virtually any test that you or I would just be told to 'hold still'. Occasionally for those with movement disorders like Parkinson's and Tourette's. Never for the President of the United States.

I will say that I was Obama's anesthesiologist.... sort of..... when he visited Buffalo. As the local level 1 trauma hospital, we were required to keep an open OR and team ready during his entire stay here. It was my assignment.... kind of an easy one..... As of course nothing happened.
