Hugh Downs signs off for the last time at age 99

Thought he died 20 years ago. Nice guy.

Up to 150 people a year are killed
by falling coconuts. Is there a more
ludicrous way to die. Many people
believe their god has a 'plan' for
them. Killed by coconut shows
the ridiculousness of life and it's
not about a 'plan', it's about making
life what you can with what you've
got.

According to what I read it's a 3lb weight that could hit you in the head at 53mph when it drops with full height and weight.

A standard workshop mallet almost weighs about 3lbs. I'd have to guess not everyone would die if you whacked them in the head at 53mph with it.

All would have headaches for sure.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

I would prefer to go in a somewhat unique way. A falling coconut sounds like as good of a way to go as I can think of.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent.

All this talk of falling coconuts just reminds me of perhaps the most famous moment in talk show history with Roddy Piper.

Far more people sustain major injuries
than die. Shoulder head and neck
traumas. It's amazing how many
countries have coconuts.

You scooped me here.

Great guy. Loved performing. Said he would have been on the road 365 days a year if the record company would have let him.

No normal person does not like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

I'm gonna have to agree with you on that.

It was a successful crossover music genre. county, rock, folk, blues. Probably even hit some pop charts at the time.
