China's Belt and Road initiative is not new, as it was announced 6 years ago. But the latest BI article says that china is investing $1 to $8 trillion dollars in the initiative.

Can you imagine the US investing that kind of money into an infrastructure project?

Quote: Cost of the Interstate System
The final estimate of the cost of the Interstate System was issued in 1991. It estimated that the total cost would be $128.9 billion, with a Federal share of $114.3 billion. This estimate covered only the mileage (42,795 miles) built under the Interstate Construction Program. It excluded turnpikes incorporated into the Interstate System within the mileage limitation and the mileage added as a logical addition or connection outside the limitation but financed without Interstate Construction funds. In all, Federal-aid legislation authorized a total of $119 billion to pay the Federal share of the cost of Interstate construction. (Interstate Construction funds were authorized through Fiscal Year 1996.)

China is taking over much of Africa.

America needs to start spending that kind of money to stay relevant.

Belt and Road has been successful, and will likley continue to be.

China has long term vision
America's vision only pertains to the next 2 to 6 years due to politics

Great post. I've said something similar; that the party not in power does not care about the results of any legislation other than to get in power.
People are talking about Democrats in Red states and Republicans in Blue states and how they will vote on impeachment. It is always discussed why they should vote a certain way to get re-elected. Almost NEVER does the discussion go this way.... "I will vote yea or nay depending upon the evidence presented".....

Republicans won't vote to strengthen Obamacare under any circumstance.
Democrats won't vote on any initiative that will shine brightly on Trump.

Africa is a lost cause, always has
been. It's a bottomless pit where
money is thrown and nothing
ever improves.

I don't understand the maritime routes in the map. It seems to me those routes have been in widespread use for centuries.

The overland routes between China and Istanbul have never been built to modern standards. It is obvious that travel from Istanbul to even as far as Tehran by rail would be torture.

The trip from Ankara to Kars is over 24 hours by train.

Are the Chinese going to magically eliminate centuries of warfare for their train?

They are already working towards that. They are already propping up who they view as the most Stable group in most states.

I know a woman online who works
in W Africa. EU companies start
businesses there because there
are no taxes and property and
labor are super cheap. She hates
it there, but makes twice as much
as she would in EU. She has to
drive 150 miles into another
country once a month to find
a decent grocery store. And the
heat and humidity year round is
stifling.

That sounds right.

Great place for businesses trying to lower costs.
