Behold, the millennial nuns.

I will add more later, but am both up to my tail in alligators and would like to give the Padre first crack at comments.

“13% considered” on a survey conducted at a Jesuit university. That’s a pretty bold extrapolation to 900,000, I think, unless they got responses from 7 million women. And, “considered” is a nebulous word: thought about it while falling asleep? Picked up a brochure? Looked at a sister in church and thought, she looks cool?

Sisterhood is a harder sell than priesthood. I have two friends whose sons became priests, and others whose sons have considered it, but none whose daughters have given it any thought at all, that I know.

I knew one nun who quit after nine years and felt her family should compensate her for having always pushed her toward the church because it was the only safe 'cover' for her sexual orientation of which they were deeply ashamed.
Its probably easier for priests to get something on the side since nuns often have travel in groups of three.

Sisterhood is a harder sell than priesthood. .

Before women's lib in the 70's, it
was easier for a girl to go from
a male dominated society into
an extreme male dominated
Catholic Church.
Many nuns today go
into it in their 40's, when the
kids are grown and the husbands
disposed of. It offers easy work,
lots of companionship, and a
killer retirement plan. They feed
and house you till you die.

From the article:

"And 60 percent of those women, Tuohy said, explicitly asked if they could join an order that would force them to wear a habit. (Currently, only about 20 percent of sisters in America wear one.) Amid all their freedoms, Tuohy deduced, these young women wanted to be led. Even constrained."

And there you go. They want to be
noticed, they have low self esteem.
Like people covered in tattoo's,
they want the nuns uniform to
scream "Look at me! I'm different,
I'm special." The absolute wrong
reason to be joining any religious
org..

"Millennials and Generation Z kids report much higher levels of social anxiety, pessimism and depression than previous generations."

These are spoiled brats who think
life has 3 choices, apparently. Get
a job, yuk. Become a drug addict.
Or, get thee to a nunnery where
you never have to make a decision,
have a thought, or worry about
anything. And you get to wear a
Halloween costume so you'll get
a ton of attention from the outside
world.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

There’s several old movies that idolized nun life. Real or not it would draw young women to the life.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

They should have a nunnery that has requirements like a seal team.

I actually read the whole article. It's
sad what modern colleges have done
to young people. They promise them
everything and deliver nothing but
staggering college debt.

They get out into the real world
and realize they actually have to
work to be a millionaire, which
they just don't understand. So
some of the girls feel hopeless
and depressed and want to give
up and join a nunnery where every
one of life's decisions is made for
them.

Still not ready for making some full comments, but I got a mini-stay of execution.

IMHO, lots of people want their decisions made for them. Look at how many want the government running their health care, their choice of college, the ones who become wards in public housing and assistance. Lots of married women just want their husbands to take care of everything, flipside a few men are like this.

Probably comes down to personality type.
