The Fall (1956)

| Pacomartin Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 1068 Posts: 12569 | The Fall (1956) by Albert Camus was one of those novels that had a profound effect on me as a young man. The Fall is basically a monologue by Jean-Baptiste Clamence, a successful lawyer admired by men and pursued by women. Without giving away too much as a spoiler, the name of the book refers to the fall of mankind at the Garden of Eden. For some reason, I remember "The Fall" along with "The Trial" , a novel written by Franz Kafka between 1914 and 1915 and published posthumously in 1925. I must have read them both around the same time. I think I was more intellectual at age 25 then I am at age 61. Has anyone else ever read the book? |

I don't think I will read the book, the synopsis was enough for me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fall_(Camus_novel) At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

I am not sure I finished it and I retained little of it other than the overall theme which I found very heavy and somewhat disconcerting for my view of the world at the time.
