Everything on this list was once a
big part of my almost daily life.
All gone.

Have a land line phone

Mail letters, been over 10 years

Have a bank account

Have a newspaper delivered

Go to the library

Watch TV in real time

Have my gas pumped for me

Look at road maps

Use pay phones

Use a dictionary and almanac

Shop for things in stores other than food

Me:

Have a land line phone................ ditto. Wouldn't have believed it even 5 years ago

Mail letters, been over 10 years........... no, we still mail letters and even mail checks

Have a bank account...........................you mean a local brick and mortar is what you don't have? We still like to have one. Have to be handled with care, they are quite prepared to sock it to you with fees.

Have a newspaper delivered...................... my wife insists or I'd join you. Too much money.

Go to the library........................ditto. Long story with me about that.

Watch TV in real time................AMEN!

Have my gas pumped for me................ditto, just about all of us I think on that one

Look at road maps...............................I'd just say "rarely" not "never". We do have a Garmin. Everybody should have a GPS, why? There is no monthly fee to pay, it's dumb not to have one.

Use pay phones...............................ditto. It's even hard to find one of those

Use a dictionary and almanac.................ditto

Shop for things in stores other than food .............................. ditto, close enough anyway

I'm thinking of getting rid of our land line as it mostly gets junk calls. However, then some other phone will get them if we do. The land line is serves as our cesspool for robo-calls.

I can't imagine living without a bank account.

I got rid of the LVRJ several years ago. They almost give it away, but I felt guilty when I did have it because most of the news was from the AP feed and I get that from the evening news on TV, so the paper ended up in the trash never even opened. As you may know, it is owned by Sheldon Adelson, so I can't trust it very much to be unbiased.

The gas station by my house has cute girls pumping gas and buying things at the store for you, but I still do it myself.

Haven't used a pay phone in years. One time I lost my phone, couldn't find a pay phone, so just paid somebody to let me use his cell.

I haven't used a physical dictionary in years, as opposed to an online one.

Although I don't like shopping, I can't see cutting that out.

That shocks me. I had you pegged as a 100% online shopper. I probably end up at a brick and mortar store about once a year. I doubt that I have been to a shopping mall in about 8 years.

I guess I live in the slow lane. Casino hotels give you free papers, so I read them.
Still go to brick and mortar libraries.
Still go to grocery stores, though no longer for milk and only for pies at holiday times.
no gps for me, too many pretty girls still willing to give directions.
no landline.
don't go to the talkies at all.

Landline? Not since I left NY. I would have yanked it within a year and only had it then for dail-up internet. I was dead broke and could not get high-speed then.

Mail a *letter*? Not in decades. Mail checks and other business correspondence? About half a dozen times a year.

Bank Account? Of course. Everyone I know has one. Direct deposit goes in, online payments go out. Only people I can think of not wanting one are either in the ghetto and cannot figure how to handle it or those in OC who do not want their name on anything. Really, why would a legit person avoid this?

Newspaper delivered? Maybe 15 years. Used to love getting the WSJ daily, and it really kept me informed. But the price got too high and the paper too thin. I got a student rate for nearly 10 years until they got wise to that. At just over a buck a week it was well worth it. At over $200 per year for a thinner and thinner product not as much. If I had more leisure in my life I would probably get it again as I loved the three long-form articles daily.

Library, all the time. I use them to work near the courthouse. Also if I am looking for a new client to get out of the house.

Real-time TV. Sometimes, almost always if I am visiting my mother.

Gas pumped for me? Anytime I visit NJ.

Road maps? Rarely the paper. Have to use maps from google from time to time when GPS isn't cutting it.

Pay phones? Can't remember the last time.

Dictionary/Almanac? If I play Scrabble. Almanac is still fun to page thru.

Shop in stores? All the time. Often need something NOW, not in a few days. I do not like getting clothes online for the most part. I want to touch and feel. Might buy this or that at IKEA. I buy a decent portion of my things online, but maybe just half.

Because it's completely not needed. My
SS check is direct deposited to the SS
debit account. The money I get from the
retirement account is direct deposited
to Bluebird. I pay all bills with SS debit
card and BB debit. And use store CC's
for everything else. With Target and
Amazon cards and Walmart cards, that's
95% of my shopping right there.

Why does a legit person need the hassle
of a bank account if they're not getting
paper checks to be cashed. All the things
I mentioned are fee free, never any fees
if you pay on time. I quit my bank when
they started a minimum balance rule
or you pay a fee. Screw that.

The only brick and mortar I go to
is Goodwill. Because I live on the posh
side of town we have a super Goodwill
that people donate all their stuff to.
Just got a $75 king comforter for $6
last week, my dog was thrilled.

Just remembered I also go the Dollar
Tree every week. It saves me a ton on
spices, batteries, pork rinds, Kleenex,
shampoo, baby powder, hand lotion,
hand soap, they have giant selection
of stuff for the kitchen.

Because there is no hassle to it. DD goes in. No worries. Every few days I get an iphione alert saying money went in. Regular bills the money just goes out automatically on the days I selected. Other bills take me less than a minute to pay. The checks I do get I almost always just deposit from my iphone. The only times I cannot is if it is over about two grand, which is at most once a year.

Heck, I will probably end up one of those guys who has it so balanced out I will be dead a few years but nobody notices because all the bills get paid. They will find me on my couch years later.

My account is awesome because I used to work at the bank. Lifetime goodies. New employees don't have it this good, grandfather clause, baby!

Learn to work the system at Dollar General. If you can do your shopping every Saturday you save $5 on $25. That is 20%! I am very careful not to buy too much, once hit $25 on the nose. The guy there remembers me. I buy stuff like shaving cream, shampoo, and other non-perishable and load up. I get a few snacks and other things as well. But the key is load up on the basics. They have men's deodorant for about $1.50. I have a ton. Body wash $2-2.50. Load up. Then you a take off the $5. Saves even more than double coupons, as long as you can deal with private label not the overpriced brands.
