I realize that manufacturers stretch the measurement of the diagonal to the breaking point, but I just like to identify by model number. Apple is being sued over misleading information about screen sizes.

That price, $299.99 is a considerable discount from (MODEL 49S405) retail price.

TCL Series: 28” 32” 40” 43” 49” 55” 65” Description
1 $149.99 $269.99 Digital TV Dumb
3 $159.99 $169.99 $269.99 $319.99 $389.99 Simply Smart (Roku)
4 $369.99 $419.99 $499.99 $799.99 Stunning Picture (4K)
5 $399.99 $449.99 $499.99 $899.99 Premium Picture (Dolby Vision HDR)
6 $649.99 $999.99 Powerful (CONTRAST CONTROL ZONES)

The series #5 or #6 models have even fancier picture technology. However, even the series #6 which retails at $649.99 and $999.99 are being sold at $499.99 and $899.99 at Best Buy.

Professional reviews rave about the series #6
https://www.cnet.com/reviews/tcl-55r615-2018-roku-tv-review/
The Bottom Line: With superb picture quality that rivals TVs costing twice as much, TCL's 6 series is the best TV value we've ever reviewed.

But TCL is still a mid - priced brand. I am shocked what some people will pay for a Samsung or Sony TV.

From this post from less than two years ago, TV's are pushing more and more into larger sizes, dropping prices, and stopping selling stupid TVs.

I never buy anything AV related without checking rtings. They do the best and most extensive reviews https://www.rtings.com/

TCL is probably the best budget brand, followed by Hisense.

I think I have bought 6 TCL TV’s at this point between myself and family, and none of them have had issues.

If you are not on a budget, Samsung or LG or Sony OLED is the way to go.

The biggest thing to look out for after you purchase a TV is missing/broken pixels or backlight bleeding on the edges. I always buy TV’s from a physical store to make returns easy, because I would say as much as 5-10% of displays have some sort of defect out of the box, especially with cheaper brands.

Also, BUY A SOUNDBAR. Even a cheap soundbar is fine. The built in audio, even in high end TV’s, is going to be significantly worse than a cheap sound bar.

Roku recently released their own audio equipment which they have been pushing hard ($500 for full setup, $180 for basic setup). Do you have any opinions?

https://www.roku.com/products/audio/roku-smart-soundbar
$179.99 Smart Soundbar and roku (minimum setup)
$179.99 Wireless Subwoofer
$149.99 Roku TV™ Wireless Speakers (discounted from $199.99)

Reviews are mostly positive, but some are very negative.

Better off just getting a TV for the pic and forget audio
Most people have quality speakers
Hook up the speakers.
Now you have that killer sound
Me and my friends been doing it our whole lives
Couch Tour. Watching a concert on your couch, gotta have high quality sound

I like Roku a lot and would wager that anyone coming off of the built in TV audio would be happy with that setup.

That price is not bad for a full 5.1 wireless surround sound system. I have a wireless Samsung system that is great, but I think slightly more expensive. I would look at that if it’s in your price range.

Audiophiles/Cinemaphiles always bag on these Home Theatre in a Box setups because they aren’t 100% ideal, but they still sound 100x better than built in audio, and you don’t need to run any cables. Those people are never happy unless they have a $5k+ HT system.

I had a roomate in the early 1980s that was an audio nut. The entire living room was full of equipment. He used to do A/B comparisons with or without Monster Cables for the speakers. Sometimes he would play tones and signals through the system for hours until I had to run screaming from the apartment.

The rollable 65" TV that is referred to in the title still does not seem to have made it's debut.

Not too many people have a view that is worth over $60K. Most people could get a 65" non-rollable TV for a few hundred dollars and put it on a blank wall.
