In the US the Acela Express trains running along the electrified North East Corridor railway reaches speeds of up to 150 mph , but only for a short time and therefore average speed is only 65 mph . Britain built the 67 mile true high speed link to the Channel Tunnel. At present, a mixture of 186 mph Eurostar international services and 140 mph Southeastern domestic passenger services use this segment.
You think it would be a mistake to build a 140 mile high speed link from London to the West Midlands (i.e. Birmingham) , with the first services scheduled for 2026. |
