Britain launched 125 mph service in 1976 on old rail lines. In the US the Acela Express trains running along the electrified North East Corridor railway reaches speeds of up to 150 mph , but only for a short time and therefore average speed is only 65 mph .

Britain built the 67 mile true high speed link to the Channel Tunnel. At present, a mixture of 186 mph Eurostar international services and 140 mph Southeastern domestic passenger services use this segment.

Gotta agree with EB here. Too many miles of tracks to guard against a jihadist. I have thought it would be one of their targets for years.

You think it would be a mistake to build a 140 mile high speed link from London to the West Midlands (i.e. Birmingham) , with the first services scheduled for 2026.

Some of the town names on the map
are so cool. Biggleswade? Bishops Cleve?
Chipping Norton? They sound like names
made up for a Harry Potter book.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
