I'd say that is worth the effort and half a million dollars.

It's worth half a mil to just tell people
I did it and see if they find out I didn't.
In the old days people based whole
careers on things they never did and
places they'd never been.

My ex has tried twice but due to tough weather conditions was unable to summit either time.

I've read that only about 30% of attempts summit. Which camp did your ex reach before he turned back?

Christ the Redeemer statue: 3832 meters above sea level
Plaza de Mulas Base Camp: 4300 meters above sea level
Camp Canada: 4910 meters above sea level
Camp Nido de Condores: 5380 meters above sea level (this camp has a Patrol of Park Rangers)
Camp Colera: 5870 meters above sea level
Aconcagua summit: 6960.8 meters

For comparison
Mount Mitchell's summit: 2037 meters (highest mountain in Eastern CONUS)
Whitney Portal: 2550 meters
Mount Whitney Summit : 4421 meters

Hey Wiz, what happened to Nareed?
She followed some cooking advice that I posted.

Just to say "I did it".
Well now, I met someone who operates a sheltered workshop wherein every employee has major physical and mental limitations. They often do get frustrated in performing tasks but even in such an atmosphere they always want some sort of challenge and some sort of sense of accomplishment.

Many school districts are offering gym classes that are less whistle blowing and less like an obedience class for dogs. The students seem to wind up more athletic in life that way. Eons ago school girls rarely became athletes now that equal money has to be made available girls are playing sports at amazingly high rates.

Climbing a rock "cliff" in a NYC park seemed natural to me as a kid but graduating to the risks of extreme cold and oxygen deprivation on Mount Everest is simply incomprehensible.

Despite the name "SOOPOO" I am a heterosexual male, thus my ex is a female! SOOPOO was my nickname for her and I got to keep it in the divorce.... I do not know the peaks or camps or such.... Just that she has climbed dozens of peaks. She does not keep her oxygen saturation at an acceptable level once she hits 20k feet or so, so she at least is wise enough not to try Everest. She made it to the top of Kilimanjaro during difficult conditions, when only a few of 20 or so people trying succeeded, and that climb was aired by the Canadian Travel Channel.

It's so odd when a man has to explain
his sexual orientation. My first clue was
the bald middle aged man in shorts in
the WoV pics..

I met her and spoke about this trip. As I recall, she made it to the highest camp at least one of the attempts and maybe both. I don't recall all the details, but I think she was rebuffed by a combination of bad weather and altitude sickness. It is possible another person in her party caused her to not summit, which is a common story in mountaineering.

I don't think I've ever publicly declared mine.
