I Love Youtube

I marvel at Youtube every day. I use it
all day long. If I'm not listening to
what Scott Adams has to say, I'm playing
an old Tom Leykis radio show in the
background.

I plays clips from cable news all day. I
watch how-to videos on everything
from my furnace, to sanding a cast
iron skillet, to using an Instant Pot.
I have watched hundreds of cooking
videos, probably thousands. Right now
I'm looking at cooking in Tudor kitchens
500 years ago, there's a whole series
of them.

I subscribe to dozens of Youtube channels.
I listen to Frank Sinatra albums in the
background while I read Kindle at night.
Youtube is my replacement for the
library and bookstore. You can find anything
and everything there. It's something I'm
delighted with and amazed at every single
day. And I'm aware of my amazement when
it's happening.

With a resource like this, humans ability to
learn and advance will speed up unbelievably
fast, we have no idea how fast yet. When I
think of what I had to go thru just 25 years
ago to learn anything, I can't believe I ever
did it.

I would hate to confess how much time I spend on YouTube. You can't work all the time, is my excuse. I would say my top three interests, in order are:

1. Music. I'm all over the spectrum, but mainly classical, show tunes, and 80's.
2. Cubing. This means videos on solving the many different kinds of puzzles in the Rubik's Cube family. The term isn't just cube puzzles.
3. Cute girls, especially with large breasts, talking about anything. My favorite lately is Let's Talk about Something More Interesting. Somebody here or at WoV turned me onto them, I forget who.

I just watched 2 videos of Japanese
turning balls of aluminum foil into
shiny metal balls by pounding them with
hammers for hours. It's a real thing
in Japan.

My first "over the table" job was doing fast foot at Knott's Berry Farm in California. Twice a week I manned the Chinese food window, which was very slow. Most people when they ordered a drink would pop off the straw wrapper while they were waiting and just leave it on the counter. So, I got to collecting these wrappers and making them into a ball. I would get each new one a little wet and add it to the existing ball.

At first I got one to about golf ball size but somebody threw it away. I then started a new one but took greater measures to hide it between shifts. That one got to about the size of a racquetball. I still have it in a box of junk in the garage. To this day when I see a little box of trash on a counter with lots of straw wrappers, I'm reminded of this little work of art of mine.

That's the phone lady -- I guess before she got her TV gig.

I started watching this woman's videos from a link in a new's story about cold therapy. (getting in freezing water)
I'm not sure what I'm learning, except some people have great jobs, and sometimes she doesn't wear many clothes.

I watch way too many of these. If you
don't LOL several times something is
wrong with you.

I guess Youtube proves the lowest common denominator wasn't.

One of the podcasters I listen to always mention that this is the best time in history to be alive if you want to learn.

My dad was once just amazed when we needed to do I forget what on one of the cars, the video showed how to do it more than once. In fact, the one time he saw a shrotcut and just cut the video short. I've made soap and cheese among other things. Did those both at my brother's house. Given how torn apart we had the kitchen his wife probably wished I just dragged him out drinking.

Built my garden based on what I learned. Tons of work on my house. Based on a rental property channel at least in part, picking up a new place for that this month. Maybe I'll post that rehab as a thread.

Can't be beat for entertainment. Lots of Hogan's Heroes loaded up. Old HBO movies. Aforesaid Tom Leykis. YT is half the reason I will never have cable again. I watch a guy called Arron Clarey, he has so much of my attitude on life it is scary.

The amazing thing is how many people just loaded up their camera and made videos. People just want to be seen. THIS is what the "information superhighway" was supposed to be.

Yup. I have always been an info geek,
I took library science in college. I try
and learn something every day.

Youtube is wonderful for tutorials
on how to do something or figure
out what's wrong. It's like having
instant access to a dozen encyclopedias.

I got an Instant Pot last fall and while
it was being shipped I watched dozens
of videos and was an expert the first
time I used it. I've done this with every
new thing I buy. Last week Uber was
a VW I'd never heard of, now I know
everything about them.

You're right, this was the info superhighway
we were promised and it's wonderful beyond
description for us info junkies. I used to
have a shelf full of almanacs and reference
books, and info books of all kinds. Not
anymore..
