Arguably the high point of her career was 18 years ago with "Erin Brockovich" which was a financial success and had no major stars other than her in prominent roles. "Aaron Eckhart" was in the movie, but he had only been acting in films for a few years, and was relatively unknown. In her previous films Julia Roberts was basically well known for her pairings with famous actors 3/17/00 Erin Brockovich - Aaron Eckhart 7/30/99 Runaway Bride - Richard Gere 5/28/99 Notting Hill - Hugh Grant 8/8/97 Conspiracy Theory - Mel Gibson 6/20/97 My Best Friend's Wedding - Cameron Diaz 12/17/93 The Pelican Brief - Denzel Washington 3/23/90 Pretty Woman - Richard Gere In a ranking of actresses by total domestic box office revenue, number of films, average per film, and biggest film with box office Julia Roberts now comes in fourth. Emma Watson only has 18 films and Lupita has only 7 films (2 Star Wars, Jungle Book and Black Panther). Of the 14 actresses whose films have collectively grossed over $2 billion domestically, Sally Field at age 71 is the oldest. The movies revenue is not adjusted for inflation.

Never been a big Julia fan. She's good if the movie is good, but she can't act worth a damn and she never carries a movie just because she's in it, like Streep has done. I'll take Natalie Portman over any of them. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

The thread is more about how bankable she is as an actress. Julia passed $2 billion in 2004 when Emma Watson was just getting started. Erin Brockvich was ranked #13 in the year 2000, possibly the biggest film ever carried by a female lead, because Albert Finney and Aaron Eckhart only have minor roles. There are 100 males movie stars that have starred in movies that have collectively earned over $2 billion at the domestic box office. Samuel L. Jackson (73 films) and Harrison Ford (42 films) each have starred in films that have grossed around $5 billion. The movie business from stars to directors to producers skews heavily towards men |

Bankable? Doesn't mean prior income necessarily. Just a sufficient draw to induce investors to risk money on a production that they might otherwise feel would be a far more risky investment. >>>>>>The movie business from stars to directors to producers skews heavily towards men. I would disagree. Gal Gadot had potential as a movie star based on small roles in 5 films so that she was cast as Wonder woman.
