Did anyone ever get into this? I never saw an episode. I think I tried to make it through the first one, but got distracted. But I have seen scenes on YouTube that I thought were funny, and the show isn't so old that things like the phones would make it appear dated.

Watched all of them. My daughter thinks Leslie Knope is awesome.

Probably the best character of course is Ron Swanson (Nick Offermann).

Strong characters, great jokes. Leslie, the main character is liberal, so conservatives might find it irritating but the show is not really political. I agree , Ron Swanson is the best character, a devoted libertarian trying to make sure his piece of .gov does nothing. "Child labor laws are running this country."
The mind hungers for that on which it feeds.

I tried watching a few ep's last year
when it hit Nflix and thought it wasn't
very funny. The goal of every episode
seemed to be to make the characters
act even stupider than the previous
episode. I saw no cleverness in it at
all. The polar opposite of a show
like Seinfeld or Modern Family.

If P&R was just 23 minutes of Ron Swanson glaring into space refusing to do .gov work, I'd still watch it.

It doesn't have the depth of characters that The Office did. There's a couple few folks that you'd not miss at all if they disappeared. But every bit of every episode is worth watching if just to witness the magnificence that is Ron Swanson.

You could almost base a religion off of him. I kind of already have.

The best thing, once you fall in love with Ron Swanson (and you will), you will then discover the wonder that is Nick Offerman, leading you down a path of entertainment you didn't know existed. It's a win-win (-win).
Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it.

I lasted 4 seasons, then it got
repetitive and I stopped watching.
Lets see how stupid we can make
Michael and Dwight look this week.
Got old by season 4.

I was laid up last summer and watched the last 3 seasons. It was really really difficult. Then the last episode was full of flashbacks, and it made me realize how good it was originally.

Top episodes:

The one with the CPR dummy
The one on the party boat in Lake Wallenpaupak
There's more, but those two stand out, to me.

Special award to "The Dinner Party", where Pam and Jim go to Michael and Jan's. That was horrifyingly funny; you wanted to laugh but couldn't because of all the tension and angst. THAT was great television.

Seinfeld was #1 when he quit. They
even offered him twice his salary
per episode for one more season.
He said they'd done everything
without getting repetitive, Larry
David was long gone, time to quit
while you're ahead.
