If I wanted to break the record I would drive a big rig down the strip on New Years Eve. Wall to wall people no place to get out of the way.

I think there are more ways to possibly deal with these vehicle attacks that aren't prohibitively expensive, at least in venues where authorities want to prepare against a possible attack.

Both involve blinding the driver. With strobes, spotlights, or even devices of collected weak lasers stationed along the street. Also, just like in a heavy storm, water sprayers could obscure the windshield enough that the driver would not be able to see where he was going.

He might crash if he kept going -- but also he wouldn't be able to swerve and run people over very easily. Police, of course, might have more time to fire weapons into the vehicle, as he might instinctively go slower.

They're reporting Paddock had huge video poker
debts. They should ban video poker, obviously.
His father was on the FBI 10 most wanted list
for years and was considered a psychopath
with suicidal tendencies. Like father like son,
that old saying goes..
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

So many thoughts, especially about what Face said.

Face; you are not alone in this.

In general;

The change is not one of left and right, and diverging into blaming either solves nothing.

The change is from respecting the other points of view, understanding that people in a society usually have a common purpose for mutual benefit, and that there is a place for each and all by agreement.

Instead, the stipulations are that people are inherently wrong unless they agree with you, that there is no common ground, that everyone has a hidden agenda that will harm you if they succeed, and that your primary purpose as an American is to make all the money you can, display it as ostentatiously as possible to prove you won, and to hell with anyone or anything else.

The pain of banging up against these invisible walls again and again numbs you. Bewilderment at rudeness, stinginess, and irrational behavior becomes a dull ache of bitterness and resentment, and finally dims to unwilling apathy. It is increasingly soul-killing to be an optimist or an empath, and you withdraw into stoicism.

I had hoped for you, Face, that it would be healing to have your stock car, your son with you, full-time work. But none of those seems to be healing your woes.

I am in similar doldrums. So much of your rant rang true. But I have not been on this forum enough to get into my specifics, so that's enough of it for now.

But I repeat. You are not alone. And perhaps saying so helps a little. It does me.

I think it will be a close thing, whether we can heal enough to find the best of ourselves again. So much hate, scorn, and derision in people, and soany new opportunities to express it.

But people are surprising themselves with resiliency, strength, compassion in the face of these repeated stressors. Perhaps the steel that we once were needs the hottest of fires to be re-forged, and that's why so much is so bad right now. I can only hope.
Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has

CBS has fired their vice president for the following comment "she was not even sympathetic” to victims of the Las Vegas shooting because “country music fans often are Republican,” . This is where all this hate has gotten too. Might have to see if ADZ has a spare room in his bunker.

Saw that. Also saw Hillary Clinton just could not resist tweeting about the NRA. Reminds me of an episode of "The West Wing" where a consultant said Josh would not be able to avoid saying something because he had "the political equivalent of Tourette Syndrome." It being a TV show aside, just WOW to saying what that VP said. It makes me feel I am sadly too right when I say that so many liberals cannot stand that they have to share the planet with conservatives.

To give credit where it is due, we so far have not seen nearly as much of this as we usually do after this kind of thing. Hillary was about the only pol I saw with a tasteless comment like that.

Can probably make room in the bunker.

The incident is a symptom of how far society has fallen. The side that thinks it holds the higher moral ground now believes that innocent deaths are fine if the dead are people who they disagree with. If I believed that this was an isolated belief and she was a one off it wouldn't concern me. But as has been proven by many of the comments on our venue here it is not an isolated opinion. The left now feel that anything goes in their crusade to save the world and make it a better place to live. These zealots are so blinded by their own hate they are destroying the very world they profess to be trying to save. Meaningful discussion now means you must agree with me because you are wrong, don't try to change my mind with facts as I have my own set. A truly intelligent person will never be scared to learn something new. Sometimes this will involve admitting you are wrong and changing your mind. When I hear this idea expressed by many on the right but almost all on the left it can be rephrased as "they just need more time to know we are right since they aren't as bright as me and able to see it right away".

I don't have the foggiest idea where this comes from
Everybody I know is horrified by what happened in Vegas
Of course there will be one extremist but that's the case with anything
It really amazes me the illogical thinking on the right to take one extremist and painting a whole side with that extremist thinking
99.999% of those on the left are horrified by the attacks

That is because you never see what is going on beyond your living room.

Every time we have an attack like this, the left wants to blame the NRA, the Republicans, anything to advance an agenda.

YOU made this post:

At least 50 dead in Vegas
sad
I wonder if Alex Jones or other right wing extremists will come and claim this is all a fake fantasy like Sandy Hook
What's really sad
If the shooter was a Muslim, the right will freak and say we have a problem
The shooter is not a Muslin therefore the right will yawn
Its amazing that these types of situations, the right determines if there is a problem simply due ones religion

You made it 1st thing in the morning. So I have to guess you were less "horrified" and more interested in being a liberal hack, attacking politically.

These people feel there is no hope, the world has dumped on them, and they figure they will go out in a blaze of glory.

As I watch the near-constant news coverage of the escalating casualties, I wonder if it's inspiring the next bitter, angry suicidal citizen to say to himself "Paddock only killed 59? I can do better."

Oh absolutely
Some nut out there is definitely thinking about breaking the record
I am sure we will have a new record inside a year
With all the guns in this country, its a no brainer the record will fall

I have never understood the idea that we spend our entire childhood learning so that we could spend our entire lives working only to retire to comfort well after our years when we could adventure, live, and grow.

The incident that I refer to at the start of my post is the quote from the fired CBS vice president who is a lawyer. That was possibly not clear in my post. The fact that a presumably smart, well off lawyer for a liberal media would publicly state it is okay to mass kill republicans is a totally new and extreme direction for the national conversation. Do many of your friends believe it is okay to randomly kill those you disagree with terapined? The worst on this board is Nareed who many times has made it clear he would not be unhappy if Trump were dead.
