odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 154 Posts: 5094 | I thought I knew the meaning of the prefix 'sesqui' from the evidence - but I was wrong [altho 150th is correct for sesquicentennial] Wizard should use it for one of his quizzes? slightly math-connected. The prefix sesqui- is a shortened form of a Latin word meaning “a half in addition” or 1½ times; it appears in the rather better known sesquicentennial for a 150th anniversary. So semisesquicentennial refers to half of 1½ of 100 or 75. .... https://www.google.com/#q=sesqui+prefix+meaning[/spoiler] I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |
