Mike has posted this story in his blog, but I want to redirect people who don't often look at the blogs.

I took a stab at trying to make a half tone image from his photo, but I think the WSJ image looks better.

Perhaps a skilled graphic artists can make a better image. A good half-tone image is probably something a writer should have in his pocket.

While I'm very proud to have my image in the WSJ (although just the online version) I must say I'm not very happy with how it looks. I looks like I have no lower lip and huge bags under my eyes.

On a rather unrelated note, I had to renew my driver's license recently and the form asked for my hair color. I'm about half grey now so didn't know what to put so decided to let the DMV worker handling it decide. She said without hesitation, "grey." *sigh*

If you had submitted this black and white image, maybe they could have put it in without converting to half tones
Black and White photo of Wizard

I don't know how old you are in this photo.

It looks like the mug shot the Vegas
cops would take after you were
back roomed at The Dunes for 7
hours straight in 1971.

I was in my late 30's when that was taken. Still have the suit.

If you are uncomfortable submitting a 15 year old photo, maybe a photo-shop expert can turn it into a decent halftone image. That way it will look more or less ageless. I tried some of those online halftone image creators but it didn't look very good.

From the photo you clearly have a line under your right eye that is from your half smile, but on the digitized image it looks like a huge bag under your eyes.

Well, it is what it is. I'm a guy so don't really care that much. It is 100 times more important to just have the honor of appearing in the WSJ than what my picture looks like.

Did not mean to distract from the honor. That's why I made a post referring to your blog so that more people notice.

There's a blog? Where?
