One thing I noticed in the article was that much of what I said is why IBM is calling workers home, home being the office. Collaboration is harder, the savings from rent are not anywhere near what they thought, and other benefits are harder to see. Of course I write this as I work from home! But if I had worked from home from the start I would never have gotten to the level I am at now. The watercooler and simple personal interaction teach so much. OTOH, IBM seems to have spread these people very far and wide. I can say no way, ever, I would move to NYC to keep my job. Hard to say if others notice and follow IBM. Really depends on the job function. The President is a fink. |

She never gets out of her PJ's, has zero child care costs, and resents the living crap out of the few times a year she has to go into the office for meetings. She has no idea what a real job is like. Sounds like me. I work from home. Haven't been into the office in almost a year and a half. I haven't worn pants in ages... “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

Mortgage and Title Mercenary is all my career will be for now. Why get promoted only to have to be there daily whole guys like me work remote? The President is a fink. |

One of them in no kids in her home work area, it's a fireable offense. They have spies who check her all the time. They make fake calls and if they so much as hear a kid or a dog, she gets a warning letter. Clients are supposed to think she's in an office somewhere, not in her basement in a home office. And she never knows what's going on with her job, she hears no gossip. Drives he crazy getting surprises she never saw coming. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
