(Inspired by Face post)

Got any memories of sad songs? Maybe they're still sad now, or maybe not.

Best ones are songs so sad, you shed a single tear, and say, "That was sad, and I don't even have a damn dog." at the end of it.

Here's one I remember played a lot. And it was kind of well known yet people weren't sure what the title was.

If you don't know the name you can try to guess from the lyrics. Spoiler at bottom.

Quote:
Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve
I stood behind her in the frozen foods
And I touched her on the sleeve

She didn't recognize the face at first
But then her eyes flew open wide
She went to hug me and she spilled her purse
And we laughed until we cried

We took her groceries to the check out stand
The food was totaled up and bagged
We stood there lost in our embarrassment
As the conversation lagged

We went to have ourselves a drink or two
But couldn't find an open bar
We bought a six-pack at the liquor store
And we drank it in her car

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
We tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how

She said she's married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She would have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn't like to lie

I said the years had been a friend to her
And that her eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw
Doubt or gratitude

She said she saw me in the record stores
And that I must be doing well
I said the audience was heavenly
But the traveling was Hell

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to now
We tried to reach beyond the emptiness
But neither one knew how

We drank a toast to innocence
We drank a toast to time
Reliving, in our eloquence
Another "Auld Lang Syne"

The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out
And I watched her drive away

Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And, as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned into rain

Some of Adele's songs are very sad,
and none of them are old. This is a
good one. Adele in going to be the
first solo singer female billionaire,
her talent is that huge.

If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Belinda Carlisle, Summer Rain:

I can hear the whistle, military train
I was dancing with my baby in the summer rain
I can hear him saying "ooh love is strange
come dance with me, baby in the summer rain."

I remember the rain pouring down
And we poured our hearts out
As the train pulled up
I can see my baby
Waving from the train
It was last time that I saw him
In the summer rain.

I'll go years without listening to it, because this part makes me cry.

Madonna has already reached billionaire level. Adele isn't even in the top ten.

Yeah, no. All those numbers are wildly skewed.
Madonna in number one but nowhere near
being a billionaire, according to Forbes.

"American singer, songwriter, actress and entrepreneur, Madonna has an estimated net worth of $560 million in June 2016, according to Forbes."

Some artists get into pretty tight contract situations, and when the money starts rolling in they're stuck for years in it.

Probably looks like a good deal at the time, compared to starving.

Most artists are able to renegotiate deals or threaten endless litigation. The days of Colonel Parker having a lifetime contract over Elvis Presley are long gone.
Madonna caps each of her lawyer's incomes at one million dollars; this cuts both ways.

She's still waaaaay ahead of the relative newcomer Adele. Decades ahead.

Adele is a singer. Madonna is a performer. Performers make more.

Madonna has been around for literally decades,
she's almost 60. Adelle has been around a few
years. The billionaire prediction is not mine,
it's Billboard Magazine's. Take it up with them
if you think you know more than they do.

Thing was record companies were always like a VC firm. Lots of srtrikeouts so need many HRs to balance it out. They had to get their end back for the push they gave her and whoever else at the time.
The President is a fink.
