According to breaking news, Hasbro is dropping the Thimble as a Monopoly piece to replace it with some as yet unnamed "modern" replacement. The thimble was one of the original pieces, and has been part of the game since 1935.

What should replace it?

funny that the choice might still be an old-fashioned look, like the telephone - bottom row

I'd be Ok with it, the T-rex, the turtle, or the racing car. Now the Wizard can psycho-analyze me! Why didn't he comment already I wonder?

Nobody under the age of 70 seems to sew anymore except maybe a button. If I can't have the Wizard hat I would choose the dinosaur. BTW, I oppose all these changes. I think part of the charm of Monopoly is the nostalgia (why is there an I in that word?). Where else can you pay $2 in rent for something or win only $10 for coming in second in a beauty pageant?

And where else can you be thrown in jail for landing on the wrong property?

Lots of places, but not in Monopoly. You can end up in jail by:

1. Rolling doubles there times in a row.
2. Landing on the "go to jail" square, which isn't a property.
3. Directed there by a Chance or Community Chest card.

Yes. It was replaced by a cat.

In looking this up I see from the Wikipedia page that retiring pieces is nothing new. In 1942 the lantern, purse, and rocking horse were replaced with the dog, horse & rider, and the wheelbarrow.

However, the same page says the wheelbarrow was an original piece, starting in 1937, so I don't know which is correct. Hopefully Paco can straighten out the mystery of the wheelbarrow.

Even when they made it I guess A.C. was suspicious about people who keep rolling Hardways?
