Similar to my lunch, a wing and a leg.

FORT MEADE, FL — A Florida man's hand and foot were found in the stomach of an alligator that was removed from a canal Thursday along with the 45-year-old man's body, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

"When he was found by a Mosaic employee, a large alligator had a part of Ford’s body in his mouth," Horstman explained. "When first responders arrived on scene, the gator had disengaged."

Any reports as to why people needlessly interrupted the gator when he was eating?

Now that a human has been shot in one resident’s quest to get rid of iguanas, the FWC is being more explicit, however. “If you are not capable of safely removing iguanas from your property, please seek assistance from professionals who do this for a living,” said FWC commissioner Rodney Barreto in the most recent statement.

Guess we have even larger snakes now in Florida than the python.

Quote:
Considered the heaviest of the constrictors, green anacondas (Eunectes murinus) are like Burmese pythons and other constrictors in that they'll eat almost anything.
"The list of potential prey items of an anaconda is extensive and varied, and consists of birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and fish," a United States Geological Survey, or USGS, website reads. "Small individuals may climb trees to raid bird nests. The green anaconda swallows its prey whole, even prey much larger than the diameter of their mouths. They are known to consume large prey such as peccaries, capybaras, tapirs, deer, and sheep."

19ft is the current python record in Florida.

She’s also kind of hot, and I don’t mean sweaty. At least in the picture they showed of her.

A woman has won the 2025 Florida Python Challenge's grand prize after removing 60 invasive snakes from the Everglades

Taylor Stanberry came out victorious after competing with 934 participants from 30 states and Canada to see who could remove the most snakes from the Florida Everglades in 10 days

"The record number of invasive pythons removed from the Everglades during this year's competition is a big win for native wildlife," FWC chairman Rodney Barreto said in a statement

A woman who removed 60 invasive pythons from South Florida in just 10 days is now $10,000 richer.

I have to think the wildlife people are OK with it all, but realize it doesn't really even put a dent in the problem ... except perhaps very localized effect

that's the way it usually goes anyway

I'm not sure how it effects the overall balance. Just like one of those fishes from another country gets in the lakes here, can threaten the fishing industry.

It probably always happened, but maybe not as fast as it does with rapid worldwide travel.

I'm sure Florida would be glad to help anyone out with snakes who wants to "save the snakes" and create a no-kill sanctuary as long as that person funds it. Doesn't seem to be that popular.

On the Spanish island of Ibiza, an unlikely hero is combating the region's invasive species crisis. Boira, a German shepherd-border collie mix, has been trained to catch invasive snakes threatening the island's native lizard populations.

With lots of patience, Boira's owner, Tomás Planells Struse, taught her how to sniff out the snakes that hide throughout the island, La Voz de Ibiza reported.

I would suggest it for Florida officials, but I'm sure pythons enjoy dog meat as much as anything else.

Unfortunately for Florida, Pythons are much larger and more dangerous than the Spanish snakes. Those snakes are less than 3'. It's very hard to find an animal that can routinely kill an adult python, that is why they became such a problem. Honestly, humans can probably do the best job, but this involves relentlessly hunting them snake by snake.
