Obama's Rental House

Obama has made arrangements to rent this house (2476 Belmont Rd NW Washington, DC 20008) when he leaves the WhiteHouse. The four-story brick house, a nine-bedroom, eight-and-half-bath property on Belmont Road NW, close to Rock Creek Park and Embassy Row, was built in 1928 and has a two-car garage and a gated courtyard. The Tudor-style house was last sold in May 2014 for $5.3 million after having been remodeled in 2011.

It is about 100 yards from Omani embassy, 250 yards from Islamic Center, and about 1000 yards from Bill and Hillary's house

I think the Secret Service plays heavily into this as he is a brand new ex-president, and public access could be a problem.

That is nominally the idea, but I don't think anyone believes it will really happen.

The home at 5046 S Greenwood Ave Chicago, IL 60615 was purchased for $1.65 in June 2005. By most reckonings it has lost most of it's value since he began his presidency. It's current Zestimate®: $410,565.

I am fairly sure that both the Clintons and the Bushes sold their primary homes upon being elected. GW bought the ranch in Crawford TX in 1999 just before he ran for office.

I don't think the Obamas could have sold the house without any political issues as the sale price would have just hammered home the loss of home values in the USA. If he was paid anything near what he paid, than he would be hip deep in scandal. Early in his first term, Obama called the house "my Kennebunkport" and vowed to return at least every couple months. But basically it exists just for campaign purposes.

The Clintons did not have a primary home, they lived in the governor's mansion. I even remember that there was talk of what would happen between November and January as he had to resign as governor. He would have no home, and to set one up for such a short time would have been a nightmare. The new governor said he would be happy to let him stay for that period but it was a matter of he might not have been allowed legally to do it.

I do not remember how that all ended.
