If it had come out during the summer or over the Christmas holiday season it would have gotten there quicker. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

That's actually a good point. It does seem like Disney took a risk releasing this movie in February, normally a weak month. Traditionally the three worst months to open a movie have been October, January, and February. That meant six Marvel movies in 14 months. So Panther was pushed to February. It was supposed to open May 4, now it's coming April 27. Usually the first weekend in May marks the official start of the summer movie season. Guess it's starting a week earlier this year. “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

Disney has no control over opening day for Deadpool 2 which is a Marvel character controlled by Fox studio. Deadpool #2 is opening 18 May 2018. They had to move up Infinity War by a week so that they have three full weeks before the competition starts. Fox has not had as much luck turning their Marvel characters into billion dollar movies, but Deadpool has been their most successful effort to date. If Disney takes over Fox they will own the characters again. Millions $783.1 Deadpool 2016 $747.9 X-Men: Days of Future Past 2014 $619.0 Logan 2017 $543.9 X-Men: Apocalypse 2016 $459.4 X-Men: The Last Stand 2006 $414.8 The Wolverine 2013 $407.7 X2: X-Men United 2003 $373.1 X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2009 $353.6 X-Men: First Class 2011 $330.6 Fantastic Four (2005) 2005 $296.3 X-Men 2000 $289.0 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer 2007 $179.2 Daredevil 2003 $168.0 Fantastic Four 2015 |
